Breaking: Tom Brady has announced that he will be retiring from the NFL, sources tell @JeffDarlington and @AdamSchefter .
But I've always believed that his impact on the game was somewhat exaggerated because he was a dominant player at a time when the game was changing dramatically. So he set all kinds of records that were considered outlandish and superhuman at the time ... and yet most of them have been broken. That last item is what really sets Gretzky apart from anyone else.
What are the two records that have been broken? I need to up my hockey knowledge.
As an American I like using sports analogies in teaching, but am finding, particularly as the years pass, my sports knowledge and interest doesn’t fit well with Canadian students. I brought up Bonds and Clemens in class yesterday, and only two people had the vaguest idea of who they were.
One of the students observed that baseball “really isn’t a Canadian thing” and this was generally agreed to—in a room with at least a plurality if not majority of Ontarians. The point that Toronto has the Jays was largely offset by another point made originally (or at least most emphatically) by the (relatively obscure) Edmonton band “Three Dead Trolls in a Baggie” about Toronto “They think their New York.” Canadian popular culture isn’t the same as American popular culture—at least among younger Canadians it seems that Three Dead Trolls in a Baggie carry much more weight than a couple of major American historical sports figures. I wouldn’t say that is bad, but it wasn’t what I had expected.
Still, many no their hockey, and thus my question.
Yeah, haven’t heard officially, just “sources”
Because he hasn’t made one.
ESPN is the single source of this “story “.
A wise decision , Tom!!!!
I’ m sure that we’ll be hearing from you in the future!!!!
- Gretzky's record of 15 regular season overtime assists has now been passed by three players. They are Nicklas Lidstrom (16), Adam Oates (17), and Mark Messier (18).
- Joe Sakic (16), Mark Messier (14), and Ray Bourque (13) have passed Gretzky's record (12) for most All-Star game assists.
OH you mean she is a *ich is all LOL
Thanks. Both are more obscure records, but still worth keeping. I wonder how many hundreds of “official” records there are in the NHL for players (excluding goalies).
I imagine that the regular season overtime assist is the more impressive of these two records, though that at first seems counterintuitive.
I haven’t followed an NHL all-star game in 4-7 years, but the last one that I did follow seemed to demonstrate that players didn’t want to get hurt by playing aggressive defense in essentially a meaningless game with the result that goals (and assists) were being handed out like Ben Biernacki handing out liquidity.
Nope. She’s a practicing witch. Articles have been written on it. It’s not a secret.
Yeah, but he was great as a pitcher and a hitter.
Or not
You have the wrong x cowboy QB. Tony Romo is worse than Aikman!
ummmm interesting, i did not know that.. learn something new everyday
she might practice one of the Brazilian American religions, that use withcraft. the slaves brought their religion with them.
👍
What?
I’m sensing jealousy, bitterness, & & that you’re not a happy camper.
Sad....life is short. Seek help.
It's really gotten kind of silly, in my humble opinion. LOL.
It already was silly when the goal total was 4-6x’s that of an average game. The players were very rational—there is no point in risking limb and livelihood in a purely honorary game. Given that every other sport has one, I guess the NHL decided they couldn’t throw in the towel.
I’d be curious about NFL pro-bowl participation (and viewership). The NBA and baseball are low enough risk that I imagine their all-star games run more or less like a high quality normal game, and competing for MVP honours would make sense.
Everybody trying to get “the scoop”
