31-year-old man who plunged 9 stories, landed on BMW in NJ released from hospital

The man who plunged nine stories from a New Jersey high-rise and landed on a BMW has recovered from injuries and was released from a hospital, a city rep told The Post Friday.

The 31-year-old — who smashed through the roof of a black BMW 330i parked below 26 Journal Square in Jersey City when he jumped — had been in critical condition in the days after his dramatic fall on Oct. 6.

But despite a mangled right arm, possible internal injuries and bloody gashes on his head, the guy left a treatment center in mid-December, said Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione, a spokeswoman for Jersey City.

“The man survived and was released from the hospital last month,” she said of the still-unidentified man. The federal health privacy law HIPAA prevented her from going into more detail about his current condition, she said.

“I heard a big boom and I didn’t think it was a person at first,” Christina Smith, 21, who shot footage of the aftermath. “The back window of the car just busted out — exploded. Then the guy jumped up and started screaming. His arm was all twisted.”

Video she filmed shows the jumper — who didn’t work inside the building, and later said he “wanted to die” — screaming in pain with upper body injuries, and a face mask strap still dangling from his ear.

rather than help the guy.

The guy high dives from 100 ft. and smashes thru the roof of a car. You don't know what kind of injuries he has, it's best to leave that up to trained EMS.

I can just picture some do-gooder running up to the car, grabbing the wrong arm and trying to drag him out of what's left of the rear window......

I’ve been binging “Fringe”...again - still quite entertaining.

There’s an episode of a woman who kept trying to kill herself albeit unsuccessfully to join her husband and child who were murdered.

Not to be ghoulish, but if the Beemer was still drivable, it would make a great commercial ad. Takes a beating...

Understood and to be clear, I'm not saying the photographer should have pulled him from the car-turned-cheese-grater and possible caused more damage. Indeed, Rule 1 of civilian intervention is DON'T MOVE THE VICTIM. You could cause paralysis etc.

The photographer could have called 911, spoken calmly to the jumper, do a bunch of other helpful things vs "here is my chance at 15 min of fame."

Just when you think it can’t get any worse, they bring in the lawyers . . .

biden distributed 2 million invaders across our country last year...

i would walk away and call 911 in the process...

whoever videoed this was smart for documenting the situation without getting involved...

BMV is the ICE version of Tesla.

All about status. Luckily they give you loaners so you still look cool while your car is in the shop, again.

Lots of variables, but an average person falling in a stable face-down attitude at ordinary skydiving altitudes will reach a terminal velocity of about 120 mph after falling about 12 seconds.

We live in strange times.

Thanks. How far would the skydiver fall in 12 seconds? That would answer the original question. The answer would be simple if the skydiver were falling at a constant speed, but gravity acceleration makes the solution a bit trickier. I need to refresh my Calculus knowledge.

Ignoring air friction and anything else, just use acceleration multiplied by the time squared. Acceleration is either ~9.8 m/s/s or 32 ft./s/s depending on what units you want the answer in, meters or feet.
