ZEBULON, N.C. — A 50-year-old man was found dead underneath a car while trying to steal a catalytic converter on Monday morning, according to officials with the Wake County Sheriff's Office.
Joshua Larry Diehl was underneath a disabled car when the jack he was using malfunctioned and was stuck pinned underneath the car on U.S. Route 64 at Debnam Road in Zebulon.
"It is unknown how long Diehl may have been under the vehicle before being discovered," officials said.
The owner of the car was on her way home from work on Sunday night and had to pull over because she had a flat tire, officials said. She had a friend pick her up and made plans to have the car towed on Monday morning.
The tow truck driver who arrived at the scene to pick up the disabled car found Diehl's body, according to authorities.

...as one of my former co-workers loved to say, there is NO cure for stupid.....
His family will now sue the jack company likely
Instant CAR-ma.................
well,,as,others have said sometimes about criminals, he won’t make that mistake again.
“Stupid is supposed to hurt.” Lurkers Granddad.
L
Yes the way some people think, a wrongful death suit could happen.
Are the converters being scrapped or resold? What is their value. Asking for a friend.
Sounds like he didn’t work the steps.
Actually, THIS is the cure for stupid. Lol.
Chalk one up for the good guys.
Meth. Not even once!
Number 1 rule is ALWAYS use jack stands when crawling under a car. That is a rule many mechanics insist on. Like you said, wonder if he lingered while dying, knowing he was screwed.
I expected to find LEAD in the story. Not today unless lead is used in a catalytic conv !!
A young life cut off at the age of 50! The money earned from his efforts was to have been used to restart his education in engineering! He could very well have gone on to design a better jack than the one that snuffed out his good life.
Worth a statue, at least. Maybe a 2 or 3 block riot and fire.
They steal them for the platinum in them I believe, but they might resell. Them too were they are so expensive these days.
Maybe a good samaritan “accidentally” kicked the jackstand aside? Cheers to them!
Ok, that’s funny.
