Pizza Hut Is Selling its Spiciest Pizza Ever

Beginning Thursday, it's rolling out the "Spicy Lover's Pizza" for a limited time. The pie features spicy marinara sauce, two types of pepperoni (classic and crispy cupped), red jalapeño peppers and a sprinkled topping custom made with herbs and crushed chili peppers.

Three versions are available: double pepperoni, chicken and pineapple, and a veggie version topped with green bell peppers, onions and mushrooms. Prices start at $12.99 for a large.

People are increasingly craving spicy food, Pizza Hut says. A third-party report from Technomic, a research firm that specializes in the food service industry, found that nearly 80% of fast food customers say they enjoy "moderately spicy foods," and that spicy flavors attract younger and more diverse customers. That is likely to bring them and "their pizza-loving friends and family into the world of Pizza Hut," potentially expanding its customer base, according to the report.

I wonder if loss of taste and smell has a hand in the trend? I like ground pepperoni and ground beef with extra cheese, thin crust and a nice tossed salad. Beer or ice tea is optional depending on an evening meal or a sporting event. I eat it hot. Cold is not my favorite. It’s why God blesses me with an oven and a micro wave. Cooking on a pellet stove with a pizza stone adds a little smoky flavor too. Beef on a pizza-it’s what’s for dinner. All this is strictly my opinions. Manga!

Chiefs completion blend for pellets works good. Hickory or mesquite ain’t bad either. All this is IMO. Be well all!

Some people inaccurately conflate “hot” and “spicy”.

Can’t believe the Domino’s here in the east end St.Matthews section of Louisville where I live, a busy business area, went under. Papa John’s booming. Pizza Hut, pretty good business. A Spinelli’s, Philadelphia-based company, struggling, not open til 5 PM. Most restaurants closing down dining rooms again. Ate in a Mexican restaurant last week. Come on in, no mask required, we’re trying to stay in business.

Jalapenos are not spicy.

Certainly not to me. I put red pepper flakes in my coffee...

I used to say the same thing but now that I am older, not only do I like the taste of pineapple on pizza, but I have a devil of a time digesting pizza without it.

I will soon be 65, so if anyone else has heard of this issue, please let me know, cause I don’t know if is in my head or not.

I have not heard of that but I know pineapple juice is used to tenderize meat. That might be a reason.

I have read that hot sauces and peppers are more popular as the Baby Boomers age and lose a bit of their taste reception. However, it seems to me that if someone wants spicier pizza they can just sprinkle on more of the red pepper flakes.
