SEATTLE — A long-time Seattle business owner is sounding off after he said his business has been "hit" by crime seven times in the past three months alone.
This past weekend, Jay Ashberg, the owner of Seattle Shirt Company, said there were back-to-back burglaries at his store.
The Seattle Shirt Company is located on the corner of First Avenue and Pike Street. Ashberg is still in shock of how far he believes Seattle has fallen.
"This city is unrecognizable to what it was even five years ago, between the homeless and the lack of police, the whole defund the police, decriminalize, it doesn't work," Ashberg said.
Ashberg said these are contributing factors to the large number of businesses closing throughout the city. It's also the reason why he said his business has been "hit" by crime seven times in the past three months, with people vandalizing and stealing from his store.
"We lost probably between seventeen and nineteen thousand dollars - between the cash, the damage to the property and the merchandise," Ashberg said.
(snip)
"If things don't turn around in the next six to twelve months, I'm out of here, I don't need this. It's not worth it. I know there's hundreds of businesses that have closed and I'm going to be one of them," Ashberg said.

Hey owner, just how long do you plan to wait? This has been going on for quite some time.
Some friends of mine, very successful professionals in the Sea-Tac area, have called it quits, as well. They have moved to Idaho.
Jiggle the handle after you flush, so the toilet doesn’t run.
Does he really think the Marxist city council is going to help? Or even “values” citizens like himself?
Why would this guy think it will get any better with the same waste of space democrats in charge. The people there voted for these scum and they are now paying the piper for it.
“If Seattle doesn’t crack down on crime, business owner says he’s ‘out of here’”
Why the “IF”. It’s over for Seattle and just about every other large city. The only goal now is to contain this crap in those cities, but that will get harder, as the animals there run out of targets.
Vote better.
They better not bring their Democrat Socialism Communism crap to our beloved Idaho. People all over Idaho are very afraid of that.
He’s going to give it 6 to 12 months? The guy is too stupid to make it in business.
“They better not bring their Democrat Socialism Communism crap to our beloved Idaho.”
My friends are NOT lefties. They are engineers, and voted for Trump.
All that “gun violence” no doubt.
Downtown Seattle was crap before covid and BLM riots. This guy sounds like a lib that is finally waking up.
Tourism is just about dead there anyway; Seattle will be nothing but a ghost city with crime and gangs controlling the streets. All they’ll have to attack will be the homeless.
Did you read the mealy-mouthed statements from the mayor and city prosecutor? This guy has no chance his situation will improve. 6-12 more months means his store should be attacked 15-35 more times.
Many liberal “friends” live there...THEY voted for it.
They are walking into stores In NyC and stealing everything. Rite aid has had to close
It is insane what libs allow
If they allow theft, what won’t they allow?
According to the article there is a 2 year backlog on (municipal) criminal trials. The owner profiled is deluding himself if he thinks the criminality will be brought under control. But that’s probably for the best; he doesn’t seem to see the cause and effect of socialism. He needs to stay behind while everyone else bails.
if anyone recall Seattle M’s former CEO Kevin Mather who was fired 2 years ago for “speaking the truth”, one of his quotes that was hidden was that he said it’s dangerous to go out in Seattle due to woke city council’s love for criminals, which is rarely reported.
