The monstrous coal-hauling Schooner "Wyoming", built by Percy and Small in Bath, Maine, was the biggest wooden ship to sail the seas. On a routine voyage bringing coal to Saint John, New Brunswick, she disappeared.
The Maine Maritime Museum has an excellent exhibit on the vessel, showing artifacts, models, and photographs of her.The Wreck of the Schooner "WYOMING", the Largest Wooden Ship in History | January 22, 2022 | Part-Time Explorer

While searching for phones online one day, my mind wandered to the Wyoming, because much like the phone I was hoping to buy, it was a technological dinosaur. The Wyoming | And Other Technological Dinosaurs | Justin Shatwell | February 25, 2015
Quite a magnificent beast of a ship.
A six masted schooner? WOW!
The great trading vessels of Roman times are known to have brought 100s of tons of cargo from India to Egypt. The manifest for one arrival by one ship (compiled by the tax man, probably) shows the largest single part of the cargo was over 600 tons of pepper. Achoo! This schooner Wyoming was totin' about 5000 tons of coal on its final voyage. For one more contrast, according to Gordon Lightfoot's song, the Edmund Fitzgerald was hauling 26,000 tons ('...more than the Edmund Fitzgerald weighed empty') when it sank.
Bump
And the captain insisted on being addressed as ‘master’.

The main problem was, the crew was six sheets to the wind. ;^)
I wonder if these maritime “arms races” led to or proceeded from large codpieces.
That sound you hear? A rimshot.

A massive wooden sailing ship. Quite remarkable, actually, for its day. But the current champion, the Royal Clipper, is larger, and much faster.
Does Noah know about this claim?
We could ask him, but the Ouija board would have to be made of gopher wood.
They’re not haulin’ coal. :^) Just diamonds.
