The latest GOP idea: A police force to ferret out voter fraud
Washington Post (democracy dies with democrats) ^ | 1/22/22 | Dan Balz

In the battle over voting rights, an idea is starting to move around in Republican circles: designated police forces designed to hunt down voter fraud. On the basis of available evidence, this is a solution in search of a problem. It is another example of what comes from former president Donald Trump’s false claims about the 2020 election.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) has put a proposal for such a force in his new budget. In Georgia, former U.S. senator David Perdue, who is running as a Trumpian candidate in the GOP primary for governor against incumbent Gov. Brian Kemp (R), says he wants something like it to assure that only legal votes are counted.

DeSantis’s new budget calls for $5.7 million for his Office of Election Crimes and Security. The money would pay for 52 staffers, including 20 sworn law enforcement officers and 25 non-sworn investigators, with field offices around the state. The team would go after “election crimes and irregularities” and have the power to refer findings to a statewide prosecutor.

DeSantis’s office provided background material that noted that the governor does not have law enforcement responsibilities and that the governor would not direct the team to pursue specific allegations.

“The governor simply wants to ensure that Floridians will have a clear, straightforward way to report suspected voter fraud, and that a dedicated team of law enforcement personnel can address it in accordance with the law,” Christina Pushaw, DeSantis’s press secretary, said in an email.

The unit would be housed in the office of the Florida secretary of state, where the incumbent is Laurel M. Lee. The secretary of state in Florida is appointed by the governor, not elected independently.

In the case of Florida....it’s just a wild landscape where New York/New Jersey residents show up, and spend three to six months of the year in Florida....claiming they are a FL resident now....when they are playing both sides of the game. If you just hired up 20 investigators who compared voting lists against NY/NJ, then went for the max fine possible for the folks....things would settle down within a year or two. And I’d make it a $20k fine for each election/each primary that you voted in...seizing assets if they can’t pay.

Idiotic politicians answer to government fraud, failure and oppression: MORE GOVERNMET!!!!

STUPID!!!!

Not to mention that the Constitution gives the feds NO POLICE POWER at all.

But who cares about the Constitution? It’s only the single greatest protection of our God-given liberties and rights against the tyranny of the feds.

Anyone with half a brain who has an inkling of loving liberty would care deeply about preserving and restoring the Constitution as the Supreme Law of the Land.

If Trump was wrong about the 2020 election theft, and there’s no need for voter fraud police forces, then forming and operating the forces should provide few-to-no convictions. Why not implement the voter fraud forces and find out who’s telling the truth and who’s lying? Hmmmm?

Why would someone be afraid of that?

BTW, having said all of that, it wasn’t clear from the article that it was talking about state “Dept. of Election...” or a new corrupt and unconstitutional federal dept.

A state dept. would be fine - no constitutional problems there at all as long as the state remains a representative republic not a police state.

My initial reaction was because too many GOP do-gooders unwittingly or otherwise find “solutions” in giving the feds more unconstitutional power which is the stupidest thing anyone could ever come up with.

I don’t know how anyone could say there was no 2020 election fraud unless they’ve been completely brainwashed by the Delusional Lying Leftist Media.

We saw the video recordings in black and white and color of crates of ballots being pulled out from their hiding places and being processed after the election places had closed.

Many, many election workers testified of massive fraud they saw with their own eyes.

Unbelievable that anyone actually thinks there wasn’t fraud in the 2020 election. The Left knows there was fraud, they just don’t talk about it.

A few thoughts.

1) All “laws” are enslavement and can be used against us. But it is not the nature of the laws, it is who is implementing them. In this case I think I am comfortable.

2) It is the leadership we should trust and elect.

3) There is no magic bullet to fix the mess we are in. It is a long drawn out affair, with many missteps along the way.

4) We need to declaw the central government, move power back from the fed to the state and from the state to the local.

5) We will always have to fight for our freedoms and responsibilities, there is never peace. And by that I mean you and I, not others.

The fraud is being conducted by the states! Is it time to throw off these shackles of tyranny and form a new government?

Absolutly love the idea, but even with retaking Congress, GOP Rinos will object.

All of those traitors must be removed from office.

You are correct.

All of the Bush acts passed in the name of homeland security, such as the Patriot Act are used against Conservatives, just as many Conservatives said would happen.

Excellent idea. And meaningful punishment for those found guilty. A class A felony with fines of up to 100k and 25 years in state prison.

I would also suggest more poll watchers that have real authority to bring charges if they witness voter fraud or counting irregularities.

In that the MSM will be the primary target of such a guarantor of democracy it is not remarkable that they should oppose it. The louder they scream the more attention they draw to themselves and their nefarious plots.

Dunno what a “conservative” is but I know true Patriots love our country and the Constitution and will fight and die to restore our Free Constitutional Republic.

IMO, voter fraud of the kind like that is tantamount to treason against the fundamental principles of this country’s founding. The punishment, if proven should involve SERIOUS prison time, if convicted. And I wouldn’t even quibble if the offense was found to be in a death penalty state and the ultimate sentence imposed. It is that bad of a crime in my eyes.
