I would agree with the argument of unnecessary exposure to injury if an entire period was required (even though that could happen).
The rule of “Sudden Death” at the outset of OT means that the winner is very likely to be decided by the coin toss.
The rule should be “Sudden Death” as soon as the SECOND team gets the ball. From that point, whoever is ahead after a given team is done wins. Simple. Both teams get the ball. Can be a very quick OT. It’s up to the teams, not an arbitrary clock at that point. Basically the sensible college rules.
I can’t believe how stupid the NFL OT rule is. If the Bills had won the toss, the Bills would be moving on in the playoffs and the Chiefs would be going home. Unbelievable.
I’ll be surprised if this doesn’t get changed before next season starts. There’s no way such a great game should have ended that way because of a stupid NFL rule.
If possible, maybe sort starting with the ones betting on all the playoffs, then a lower section on those betting on only part of the playoffs.
The problem is the team not winning the coin toss really should have the advantage of going second and knowing what they need to do.
So assume that they get a three-and-out, and they get the ball on a punt. Now they only have to score a Field Goal, that’s actually an advantage of not getting the ball first, assuming your defense can make the stop.
But pretty much at that point of the game, both defenses were so gassed, that neither was capable of stopping the other.
So more and more I am thinking doing it like they do in college. Have both teams start at the opponents 25, and make them go for 2 if they score a TD.

Nothing is perfect. At the point of OT, the team winning the toss should do all they can to score a TD. That’s the game.
LOL, just do like Soccer and make each team kick 5 Field Goals.
No, actually I see what you’re saying.
I don’t know, maybe a full period would make sense even though it threatens more injuries. Better than what they have now.
I’m watching the last two minutes again - it happened last night in such a blur.
Apparently near the end of the game, Travis Kelce tells Mahomes he sees something in the Bills defense and he’s not going to run the route in the play they called. Apparently in the huddle, Mahomes yells “DO IT!” to Kelce and they connect I think for a score or close to it. I’m gong to try to find that play and see if you can hear Mahomes yell that.
Apparently it was Tyreek Hill that saw something in the KC defense (KC defense covering the sidelines and was WIDE OPEN in the middle of the field) and told Mahomes he was going to run a different route than the play call. With 1:13 on the clock, apparently in the huddle Mahomes yelled, “DO IT!” to Hill who ran straight down, Mahomes, hit him, he scores a TD.
Good stuff.
Test came back negative.
Had a cold virus other than COVID.
Went back to work today.
Why can’t I catch COVID?
How many times has the overtime game been one on the first possession? I know in the playoffs since the rule change there have been 11 overtime games, 10 were won by the team winning the flip, but only 7 of those on the first possession of OT. So is the solution a college-type OT rule? Just make it a set period with no special scoring rules, just whoever has more points at the end wins? What?
Second to the last play in regulation. Mahomes hit Kelce for about 25 yards and the tying field goal turned from a 60-plus yard attempt to 49 yards.
I’ve come to think the best solution is a full OT period.
I had the wrong guy.
Apparently it was Tyreek Hill that saw something in the KC defense (KC defense was covering the sidelines and the middle of the field was WIDE OPEN - KC defense brain trust blew it in those last minutes) and told Mahomes he was going to run a different route than the play call. With 1:13 on the clock, apparently in the huddle Mahomes yelled, “DO IT!” to Hill who ran straight down, Mahomes, hit him, he scores a TD.

I had it late last summer. Sinus headache and a runny nose lasted about two days. Mildest cold I can remember. Then my wife tested positive two days in a row and she was sick better part of a week. She lost taste and smell but I never did.
No you had the right guy. The Chiefs lined up and before the play started Buffalo called a time out. Kelce told Mahomes that if they came back and lined up the same way then he was going through the two defenders. Otherwise he would run the play as planned. They did, Mahomes called the audible, Kelce caught the pass for about 23 yards, and the rest is history.
I kind of lean that way but honestly I can see a case for the current way as well.
The problem with a full quarter overtime is that it does not work for play-offs.
Having been to the ‘71 six quarter game, I suggest that in the regular season you settle for a tie at four quarters and record it that way. It will make teams “go for it” in the end of the fourth quarter. Then, in play off games, you add a full 15 minute quarter. If tied at the end of the fifth quarter, you continue the game based upon who is entitled to the ball at the end of the fifth quarter and it is sudden death from the opening of the sixth quarter.
The only people that won’t like it are the bookies and sports betting sites.
