Located at Cielo Drive, Franklin first purchased the property for $6 million “roughly two decades ago” when it contained only a partially finished mansion, according to The Wall Street Journal. Franklin moved in after fixing up the estate in 2007, and has since said that the property’s past has had “no impact on my life whatsoever,” the outlet reported.
A previous home on the same property — located at 10050 Cielo Drive — was the site of the Manson Family’s gruesome murders of Sharon Tate, Jay Sebring, Abigail Folger, Wojciech Frykowski and Steven Parent in the very early morning of Aug. 9, 1969. Tate was eight months pregnant when she was killed; the fetus did not survive.
The house at 10050 Cielo Drive was eventually torn down in the mid-1990s by Alvin Weintraub, who owned the property around this time, Los Angeles magazine reported in 1998. Weintraub built a new home on the property, changing the address to 10066 Cielo.
“We went to great pains to get rid of everything,” said Weintraub, per the Los Angeles article. “There’s no house, no dirt, no blade of grass remotely connected to Sharon Tate.”
Franklin had also told Architectural Digest in 2010 that he hired architect Richard Landry to build the mansion with “a warmth and coziness that isn’t very common in houses this size,” and credited “John Stamos, Bob Saget and the Olsen twins” for contributing to the wealth that afforded him the opportunity to build his dream home.

I suspect it has something to do with people looking to see where the Manson Murders took place and wandering around his property uninvited.
I’ve seen a couple of YouTube videos of someone living in LA, who made videos of where a number of famous murders took place, the Tate/LaBianca murders and the OJ Simpson/Nicole Brown murders in particular.
The La Bianca killings took place in the Los Feliz area about six miles east, near Vermont Ave.

The Tate murders were off Benedict Canyon which runs up from Sunset in Beverly Hills. The LaBianca were in the Los Feliz section of Los Angeles, not far from Griffith Park, east of the Tate murders.

i went by the Tate house in 1987...was kinda spooky up there even at 2 in the afternoon..
We got a fancy 6 page sales pamphlet on a row of new homes near our neighborhood. I forget the details, but something like 4 to 5 bedrooms, each with their own master bath. Plus a couple of guest bathrooms.
While sharing two bathrooms with three kids did have its moments, usually it worked out fine. Probably taught them how to plan ahead, work with each other, coordinate, share cleaning duties, etc.
I can’t imagine having to clean all those bathrooms! (Although even for our neighborhood homes, if they can afford a home like that they can afford a cleaning person once a week.)

Manson clan favorite cars to steal and work on were VW’s and dune buggies.
The manson girls would take a brand new or used VW out for a test drive with the salesman and while out on the road pull a gun and kick out the salesman and drive off.
There are to this day numerous shells of VW’s in a gully behind what was Spahn ranch because no one can get them out it is so steep.
