This deer is going viral for flipping a big “buck you” to physics after it was filmed leaping to an insane height while crossing a road in India.
A deer put Michael Jordan to shame after it was filmed leaping to an insane height while crossing a road in India. A jaw-dropping video of the gravity-defying feat boasted over 85,000 views on Twitter as of Monday morning.
“And the gold medal for long & high jump goes to…..” reads the caption to the high-flying footage, which was shared Friday to the Twitter account of India-based environmental NGO WildLense Eco Foundation.
In the exhilarating slow-motion clip, a spotted deer can be seen emerging from a river and jumping effortlessly across a dirt path. During the incredible soaring leap, the ungulate glides through the air at approximately the height of a person as if suspended by wires in a Hong Kong kung fu flick.

Wild video shows deer crashing through CBD store window

Owner Kirby Mastrangelo said she got a call from police Wednesday morning about the incident. She thought it might have been a prank, but she found the broken glass and security camera footage.

hmmm, maybe that whole Santa/Rudolph thing isn’t as far of a stretch as we thought.
It’s not that it jumped that high. It is that it did what ski jumpers do. It jumped at speed before hitting a steep downhill slope. If I jump off a 200 foot cliff and fall to my death, I didn’t “jump” 200 feet up.
Almost like the deer expected the terrain to keep going uphill but it dropped instead.
Nevertheless, I can see that the fence around my garden isn’t going to be tall enough.
yep, it jumped a reasonable height, then “fell” a ton :)
I did that on my motorcycle once................. Not on purpose........................
Yeah. I'd say height-wise it maybe cleared 6 feet or so. It's just that the landing happened to be downhill from the takeoff.
Powerful muscles. Would not want to be kicked by one, even a little one.
A very large man once told me he was reduced to sobbing like a little girl after an encounter with a kicking baby goat.
(Hold the Muslim jokes, please)
“Although the clip’s poster doesn’t actually disclose what type of deer is featured in the footage, the axis deer — a species native to India — can reportedly leap over fences when threatened”
Our Idaho deer routinely leap six foot fences to eat garden vegetables and flowers. They don’t need to feel threatened to do it, either.
With everything going on in the US and abroad, you know, those pesky little things like violations of numerous constitutional/civil rights, fraud, murder, countless illegal activites... this, THIS, is news worthy? How utterly pathetic. Rant off.
The video won’t play. All the popup ads and malware are getting priority at that website.
I watched a deer in my back yard walk slowly up to a 6 ft. fence and leap it in one bound. No steps. No Fosbury Flop. Just straight up and over.
The deer’s incredible leap wasn’t only high, it was also super long. Far, far longer than any Olympic human athlete could accomplish.
A dog in the garden helps, or did when I a kid on the farm.
The jump is impressive, but as you mentioned, he took off with speed on an upslope which provided a small amount of lift, then landed on a downward slope which increased the distance.
A couple of years ago, I was behind an SUV on a four-lane highway (with a center turn lane) just outside of our town in Illinois. Suddenly, a deer came running out of the woods, heading right at the SUV. Realizing it was about to hit the side of the SUV, the deer jumped right over it. It was awesome to behold. It was raining, so when the deer landed in the center turn lane, it fell down spread-eagle and went spinning across the road. Fortunately, there were no cars coming from the other direction. The deer spun onto the shoulder, got back on its feet, and went running off into a field.
I’ve got an eight foot fence to keep deer out. So far so good.
But b/o all snow, they are hanging around the fence like they will jump over it to get to our bird seed. Uh=oh.
I used to cross a RR track at speed to get a little air under my bike.
One day I got it up to around 70-80 and went up around 15 feet into the air and came down slightly canted. The forces on my front wheel were emense as my handlebars were almost ripped from my hands but I managed to fight it off. I slowed to a stop got off and sat on the grass shoulder. I didn’t get back on for ten minutes. I never hit that little hill at anywhere close to those speeds again.
