One of the earliest songs I remember listening to on the transistor radio I received from my parents when I was in fourth grade. Also
Downtown by Petula Clark,
Mr. Tambourine Man by The Byrds, and
It's Not Unusual by Tom Jones.
Yes, I know there were several Beatles songs on the radio then, but I didn't particularly notice them or identify with them at that age. The first Beatles song I remember really liking was Eleanor Rigby, which didn't come out until the summer of 1966. In 1965, The Beatles were just another group on the radio to me.

Very Cool! Junior High (7th grade) 1965-66, classmates had a band that played this.
The lead singer/guitarist played on for nearly 40 years before he died of cancer. (RIP Steve Hickman)

First song many young people of my generation learned to play on the guitar - though certainly not like the first few minutes of that!
I’ve always loved the song.

The most underrated band of the British invasion in the 60’s. Burdon still has his voice too.

Burdon's screaming version has to be the worst rendition of House of the Rising Sun ever recorded. It's a blues that should be sung sotto voce, with little or no accompaniment. Even Dylan did it better.

When I was little, my uncle used to sing and play “House of the Rising Sun” as a lulaby to me and my brother. Used a small acoustic guitar. Was very good. I think of that everytime I hear the song.

First record I ever bought... it was a 78 and “Don’t let me be Misunderstood” was on the B side and it was great too....
