Especially in this case, up, up, up into the sky!

“Hunga-Tonga-Hunga-Ha’apai“. That’s what the Dali Lama told me the last time I caddied for him.

The weather was crazy after the Chicon volcano erupted in 1982. That summer (in Colorado, Denver area) I recall it rained almost every day for some weeks during the summer. The sunsets were brilliant and the sky was a weird color at night, like eggplant.

Dean Martin has a volcano theme song:
Tsunami I think it’s called!
Or is it Volari!

AD1100, plus or minus a few decades.

I feel like it’s so cute that someone had the notion to include the comment that 1100AD was like 1000 years ago. That’s so cool, I would never have guessed that many! /S

I visited Merak 10 years ago and took a ferry boat out to the Krakatoa site. It was very peaceful. Very hard to imagine the violence that took place there.

Tsunami triggered by a huge volcanic eruption under the Pacific ocean left towns across Tonga damaged, say reports: Sun, January 16, 2022, 4:44 AM

I bought 30 acres of ocean front property. Now it is cleared for building and I will be long dead by the time there is another eruption, if history is a reliable guide. 🙂

It’s like when you go to Naples, and look at Mt. Vesuvius.

Global weather patterns were affected for the next five years (falling by as much as 1.2 degrees Celsius) and sunsets were rendered more vivid because of the large amounts of sulfuric acid in the air.

Global warming? Have some of my butt gas.

The earth farts in your general direction, puny human caused global warming.

“So, the native survivors of that eruption had a Christian calendar and kept records of the event?”

No, but Western scientists do, and they have techniques like carbon dating to estimate when last eruptions occurred. It’s likely that a lazy journalist used an exact year, when the experts probably gave an approximation.

That’s a stunning piece. One assumes the pressure wave went around the world in an omnidirectional fashion so that on the exact opposite side of the planet, the two sides would meet.

I sold my house to get out of a Soros county...since the cards would be totally stacked against me if I were to encounter the legal system.
