Infamous Mars meteorite contains organic molecules. But they aren't proof of life.

Organic molecules found in a Mars meteorite that crash-landed on Earth are not signs of life, but instead formed in chemical reactions between water and rock on the Red Planet about 4 billion years ago, a new study finds. These findings could shed light on the origins of the building blocks of life on early Earth, researchers add.

Organic molecules generally include any compound with carbon, and they may possess oxygen, nitrogen, sulfur and other elements as well. Organic compounds are often associated with life, but they can arise due to "abiotic" or non-biological activity as well. Previous research detected numerous organic chemicals in Red Planet rocks, as well as the organic gas methane in Mars' atmosphere. However, the origins of these compounds has proven controversial.

In the new study, researchers focused on the Allan Hills 84001 meteorite, also known as ALH 84001. The rock was discovered in the Allan Hills in Antarctica in 1984, and subsequent work revealed that a cosmic impact blasted it off the Red Planet about 17 million years ago; it then plummeted to Earth about 13,000 years ago.

The new research isn't the first time the meteorite has interested scientists investigating the origin of life. There was once a great deal of controversy over whether or not ALH 84001 included fossils of microbes from Mars. Much research now suggests abiotic factors could help explain these seeming fossils.

I just hope they don't discover Kryptonite in some of the rocks.

“Organic molecules found in a Mars meteorite that crash-landed on Earth are not signs of life, but instead formed in chemical reactions between water and rock on the Red Planet about 4 billion years ago”

....or, were formed when the object turtles through a wet, carbon rich atmosphere as it hurtled towards earth, or were formed when it impacted the organic rich earth after its entry etc...

But not, only one plausible ‘splaination
that fits the common pseudo science narrative of secular mankind.

Temperatures on Mars average about -81 degrees F.

Organic chemistry is the study of the structure, properties, composition, reactions, and preparation of carbon-containing compounds.

organic relates to carbon, not life

An “organic” chemical is any compound that contains a carbon atom.

Caron is the sixth most common element in the known universe.

1. Hydrogen
2. Helium
3. Oxygen
4. Neon
5. Nitrogen
6. Carbon
7. Silicon
8. Magnesium
9. Iron
10. Sulfur

atmospheric entry temperature can reach 3000 degrees centigrade. Hard to believe anything living could live.

You are sure it wasn’t the meatballs or the lack of? What about the sauce or the lack of? Without a full analysis we cannot be sure of causes of auto crashes.

Strange how a microcosm is life, but a baby in the womb isn’t.

Old stuff. If they find history of microbes on Mars(actually found on Mars...not some possible meteorite.)..we could postulate that the sample was blasted from earth in an impact event also. The reason they believe the famous rock was from Mars was due to microscopic sealed gas bubbles which contained gases which they believed to be atmospheric composition on Mars at the time of the formation of the rock. I am so glad they knew what the Mars atmosphere was like then.(sarc). We still argue now what the earths atmosphere was like long ago. The weakness of the reporting the time exposed how ugly the news media is. The headlines were things like “microfossils found on Mars”...when it was not a microfossil but evidence of chemical reaction seen in life...and it as found in Antartica....cannot trust the media, ever...

Concerns me more that stuff happens in this solar system where an “impact event” blew stuff off Mars onto Earth.

And I believe Mars shows evidence of a truly devastating impact.

The few carbon-containing compounds not classified as organic include carbides, carbonates, and cyanides. Plus there are some compounds that are considered organic but have no carbon in them. I believe they contain sulfur and are found in deep ocean vents.

Just how are they so sure that the meteorite came from Mars 17 million years ago?

The longer I live the clearer it is that there is NO life anywhere but earth. The odds against life on earth AND the universe are literally astronomical. If it were ANYTHING else we would say there's zero chance. Yet our science and culture is built around the entire mistaken idea that earth is not special and that life abounds in the universe. In other words, that God did not create life on earth and man as special beings.

So every time they discover something they always have to keep putting forth the notion that there's a CHANCE. But again the chance is so impossible that they had to invent the concept of a multi-verse, an infinite number of universes, to justify our universe and earth being here.
