Some passports afford their bearers more freedom than others.
In 2022, Japan and Singapore have been named the countries with the world's most powerful passports by the Henley Passport Index.
You will find more infographics at Statista
Holders of these passports have the unbeatable luxury of being able to enter 192 countries without applying for and receiving a visa beforehand.
South Korea (not pictured) and Germany follow with visa-free travel to 190 jurisdictions.
Even though the United States is further down the ranking, the American passport still yields considerable power. U.S. passport holders can travel to 186 countries without major restrictions. That's a level of freedom also enjoyed by citizens in New Zealand, Norway, Switzerland, Belgium and the United Kingdom. At the other end of the scale though, the situation is very different. For passport holders in Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria for example, the world is very much not their proverbial oyster.
The Afghanistan passport wields the least power in the ranking, with just 26 destinations possible visa-free. As this infographic shows, the situation is similar for Iraq (28) and Syria (29).
So where do these countries need a visa?
Worldmeters says there are 195 countries.
Freedom is a natural right and not something to be handed out by The State.
I can barely travel in my own state of MA. My papers are not in order.
“Freedom is a natural right and not something to be handed out by The State.”
So by that logic anyone can waltz into the US from anywhere without a visa.
You sure that’s what you want?
L
Heck. Formerly “free” nations don’t even let you leave your house cuz muh covid.
Using my USA passport, I have traveled to 50+ countries without needing a visa. But I need a visa to visit country of my birth, India! Go figure. Back in 2008 my wife and 2 kids, all wanted to visit India because they have never been there. But the visa cost was so ridiculously high, we all signed up for a 14 day Mediterranean cruise, and had a marvelous time touring England, France, Portugal, Spain, Italy and France. No visa required anywhere.
How powerful is a vaccine passport?
That would be the United States. The passport was designed by an ingenious person named Samuel Colt.
Lurker: So by that logic anyone can waltz into the US from anywhere without a visa.
Maybe Arcadian Empire was thinking of exit visas - which, however, were not the topic of this article.
Regards,
This piece of information is old. Then world is a very different place today than it was two years ago. The only country that I may be able to travel without restrictions would probably be Mexico. Everywhere else requires vaccine passports and/or covid-19 tests.
Russia for one.
I tried to visit Russia couple of times in the past and their demanded visa. I even got the application forms.
Not only Some kind of “Pay us few bucks and wait a minute”, but like “give us the record of your whole life”, pay big money and wait half a year.
Regardless of the salty price tag and long waiting time,
I would never give them that kind of data!
I skip it.
And in some countries, the visa is just an entry tax. When I went to Egypt all I had to do was pay them something like 30 bucks cash, in the airport, to get the visa stamp.
