Mexico wants to improve children's diets, so it seized 380,000 boxes of Corn Flakes, Special K and other Kellogg's cereal, claiming the boxes had cartoon drawings on them

Mexico has seized 380,000 boxes of Corn Flakes, Special K and other Kellogg’s cereals, claiming the boxes had cartoon drawings on them in violation of recently enacted laws aimed at improving children’s diets.

While Corn Flakes or Rice Krispies are clearly not the worst thing Mexican children eat, the laws prohibit food companies from using marketing tactics that might appeal to children, like cartoons or mascots.

Mexico’s consumer protection agency also said Friday that the cereal boxes did not clearly state nutritional values like calories, fats, salt or sugar, or didn’t have the proper warning signs for levels of those ingredients that are considered excessive.

Agents raided 75 sales outlets and seized pallets of Kellogg's products there, but the vast majority of the seizures were carried out at a warehouse north of Mexico City.

Every once in a while I get a hankerin’ for some plain corn flakes.

Unfortunately developed as a testosterone lowering agent for imprisoned men.

I still like Corn Flakes, but feel weirdly emotional after eating them...

Sugar is bad for kids. They run around all excited from the sugar high ad cannot sit still for school. The teachers then give the kids drugs to combat it. Do not give sugar to kids.

I'll bet if the kids had to jog even 1/4 mile B4 starting class, that sugar high would be well worn off. Maybe TOO worn off.

Funny thing is, both Special K and Corn Flakes only need a little sugar to taste good. Now what are the kids gonna have for breakfast? Almost certainly something worse for them...

P.S. The teachers then give the kids drugs to combat it. .. Granted that my wife has taught at a private school for the last few years, but she says she's never heard of such a thing. TEACHERS are forbidden to give out so much as an aspirin. Even the school nurse is highly restricted except in case of emergency, and even then preferably with parental direction / assent.

Cereal is a bit addictive... :)

I suppose we could start a cereal cartel here and make bank smuggling cereal? Yep, that’s what we should do.
