On Monday morning, the Vikings made what might have been the most sweeping set of leadership changes in the Wilf family's 16 years of owning the team.
The team fired coach Mike Zimmer and general manager Rick Spielman on Monday morning, according to a source familiar with the team's decision-making, parting with two men who'd been in their positions longer than most of their peers around the NFL. Both Zimmer and Spielman had two years remaining on the contract extensions they signed in 2020, but a day after the team finished 8-9 and missed the playoffs for the second straight season, the Vikings opted for a total reset.

I think if I were an owner I'd be saying to myself "we just added another team to the playoffs. 14 teams make it now, in a 32 team league! If you can't be in the top half of the league and you've been in the job more than a few years than you need to go!" Probably part of the internal monologue the owner had.
Biggest mistake the Vikings ever made was moving indoors.
You mean wearing a Seminoles jersey in Gainesville.
Every time I travel to Pullman, WA, I wear my purple and gold Huskie shirts or hats. Gotta represent when you in the belly of the beast...
Either way, you are a target of scorn.............................
The only Vikings game I’ve ever seen live was at the Met stadium, in a snow storm, where we lost to the Bears.
Well at least that’s another cold-weather team.
Do you think if that NFC Championship Game against the Falcons was at The Met, the Vikings lose that game? Hell, no.
When we first moved here to Ft. Walton Beach in 1981, my wife wore her Gators jersey as normal around Jacksonville.
We went to a Fast Food drive-in window and the cashier lady said, “I wouldn’t be wearing that around here in public if I was you!”........................
Hopefully the Seahawks fire Pete Carrol and bring in someone who:
1) can fix the defensive slow starts since Dan Quinn left
2) can get a more innovative offense
3) quit playing a low scoring came to keep it close and go for the other teams juglar
I know Fangio. He is a super nice, unimposing looking guy. But get him on a football field.....he wears a cape!
I wish Vic well, even though kicking the FG instead of going for the tie, which allowed Mahomes to close out the game, was a blunder.
Oh, yes. Ziggy Wilf. There’s a name you can trust.
Jerry Glanville said the NFL stands for “Not For Long”. With most coaches, including himself, that’s correct. The Vikings are a team whose W-L record never quite matches the talent on the field.
I actually met an NFL assistant coach online during the old CompuServe days. He talked about having to pack up and move his family on a regular basis because most get their jobs through networking and have to constantly keep employed based on who they know.
I have a feeling Quinn is going to be Seattle’s next head coach.
Bears fired Nagy and their GM today as well, the Dolphins also fired their coach.
Zimmer will probably end up in Dallas as a Cornerbacks coach
Never forget that great trade by Minn to Dallas. Herchel Walker to Minnesota for six players and five draft picks giving the Cowboys a dynasty in the 90s! Minnesota got not so much.
Lions fan here, now a Matt Stafford fan...
The problem with the lions, as I see it, is that they would play not to lose.
They never played to win.
Now, they are playing to win.
After watching Miami play in their classic Aqua unis yesterday, I hope the next GM brings back their classic uniforms permanently.
Only 3 wins, but nobody is saying “Same Old Lions” anymore.
It just goes to show how team culture matters.
Miami kept their GM of 7 years, just let Flores go. I was kinda surprised, he had a decent first 3 years. 10-6 last year and 9-8 this year, plus he was 4-2 against Belicheat in the division. Wasn’t Tua hurt and missed a few games earlier this year?
Unless Miami has someone in mind to bring on, I don’t understand firing the head coach. It seemed that things were headed upward there.
