As hundreds of students and teachers scrambled for remote learning on the first day of class in 2022 due to a spike in COVID cases, the community was rattled by other news — the sudden death of superintendent Tim Mains.
Mains, 73, died suddenly on Dec. 30.
While the district declined to share the cause of death citing personal privacy, town of Wallkill police chief Robert Hertman said Mains died after a medical emergency call. Hertman said a man called and reported he was having a medical emergency on Dec. 30. After receiving no answers to their knocks on the door, officers forced their way into the residence where they found Mains unconscious, Hertman said. Extensive resuscitation was performed, but the efforts were unsuccessful. Hertman added while the case is under a standard investigation, the death does not appear to be suspicious.

I knew of Tim Mains. He was a teacher at Greece Arcadia High School. I never was in any of his classes, but I knew of him.
All deaths are sudden. An instant before you die, you are alive.
The real question is whether the death is expected or imminent given the person’s condition prior to death.
Gee, wonder what the cause of death could possibly be?
