Well those of us a certain age will certainly remember Dwayne Hickman and his TV show The Many Loves of Dobie Gills. Not to mention his sidekick Maynard G. Krebbs.

Made me feel a little old today hearing of this, one of my favorite shows as a kid. Also featured Tuesday Weld, Stephen Franken, as Chatsworth Osborne, Jr., and a young Warren Beatty as Milton Armitage. And certainly don't forget Dobie's steady girlfriend Zelda Gilroy.

Adios Dwayne and thanks for all the entertainment.

Saget was #1. Dobie, #2.

One of my family’s favorite shows when I was very young. Just watched him in the Burt Reynold’s movie Sharkey’s Machine Friday night.

We didn’t get TV until 1965, so I didn’t see that show, but I have a copy of the Max Shulman stories around here somewhere.

I certainly remember that show. It came on after Dennis The Menance and before Ozzie & Harriet.

Chatsworth Osborne, Jr., was Rush Limbaugh’s nickname for Tucker Swanson McNear Carlson.

”Stephen Franken, as Chatsworth Osborne, Jr.”

Rush Limbaugh’s uncomplimentary nickname for a young Tucker Carlson…

"Well those of us a certain age will certainly remember Dwayne Hickman..."

I do. We watched it every week. I doubt today's generation ever heard of Beatniks.

A sad loss. I loved Dobie Gillis. Never knew he was in “The Grapes of Wrath.”

I was very young when the show was on, and have only a hazy remembrance of it.

We are certainly feeling the effects of "Zelda" to this day in California - the odious Sheila Kuehl.

The book, by Max Shulman, The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis, was on my daughter's high school reading list - I couldn't find it anywhere except on the secondary market - and it wasn't cheap. The teacher was really impressed. I read it myself and LOVED it. Looks like it's been reprinted now and is available for $7.99 on Amazon.

My copy looked like this:

And has since disappeared....
