Marlboro had developed a flue drying process to accelerate how quickly the leaves cured.
they attempted to take over the world cigarette market by going to each country and mimicking the formula of the most popular brand. People wanted the American brand and switched.
They then would change slowly back to their original formula including the flue dried tobacco.
As they did this cancer rates soared in those countries. They knew and kept making it.
The process of flue drying concentrates the nitrosamines by 22 times its normal concentration.
By the time that the government offered to protect them all with that settlement, the other manufacturers had developed their own flue dry process.
This is the reason that after the tobacco settlements there were movements to also ban cured pork products (creating the everything bacon backlash) and condoms as both have some nitrosamines.

Reason I thought there were 3 in Scottish rite was my Scottish grandfather was a master mason, having gone through the other 2 degrees, and my father had been in a different lodge system and was a 32nd degree Mason.
