SF Startup Bolt Just Implemented a Permanent Four-Day Workweek as CEO Calls Out 'Work Theater'

A San Francisco-based startup has just announced a permanent four-day workweek, citing heightened productivity and happiness among current employees during a test run.

Bolt, an e-commerce company founded in 2014 that currently employs about 500 people, first implemented a four-day workweek as a pilot last fall, CNBC reported. Workers, naturally, loved it.

Bolt founder and CEO Ryan Breslow told CNBC that workers were overwhelmingly happy after the initial three-month run, with 94% of workers wanting the program to continue.

In a statement to SFGATE, Bolt spokesperson Hilary Neve said that 84% of employees boasted improved work-life balance and 85% of managers reporting that "teams are able to hit their objectives and key results" even with the reduced workload.

"This four-day workweek pilot was our test to see if we could keep standards of execution high while still putting the team’s health and well-being first, and it surely paid off," said Neve in a statement.

A five day, 40 hour work week is totally arbitrary. If these guys can make a 4 day work week work for them, all the more power to them.

Our plant has been doing that for years. Four x 10 hour work days, three days off. Shifts alternate so they take turns getting weekends.

We get the same amount of work hours out of them and more productivity.

Journalists are so pathetic these days.

**************

There are very few actual journalists these days. Most are shills and propagandists.

“reduced work load” sounds like they might have done 4 x 8

A friend of mine’s company did that when his dad was still running it back in the 1970s. They probably employ around 100.

“What the CEO said was”WOKE theater”. Journalists are so pathetic these days.”

Where do you get that.

“Work Theater” makes more sense in this context.

“The issue with the five-day workweek, Breslow said, was the reliance on “work theater,” or “people caring more about the appearance of working than the actual work.””

Also true is that journalists are a rather pathetic bunch nowdays.

What employee wants to work 10 hours a day?

With so many of today’s employers hungry for workers, a four day work week may quickly catch on. The comment about “work theater” is all too true, with so many workers in government and large corporations being slackers who are too cemented into place to easily fire or otherwise shove to the side.

4 x 8 would definitely have happy, motivated employees.

Call me skeptical. Most IT start-ups already expect 10 hour days, at a minimum, for at least 5 days a week.

And 80% really liked the free alcohol, too.

I was working a 10 hour day for four days back fifty one years ago.
What made it good back then was Friday and Saturday were 8 hours of time and a half overtime!

People would say I was chasing money. Actually I was fleeing poverty.

Really?
The company pitches its offering as a universal login credential that will allow e-commerce sites to compete with Amazon’s speed. Bolt said that once shoppers sign up, including providing shipping and payment information, they can quickly log into any site using its software and complete a one-click purchase. “Bolt has the opportunity to be one of the most impactful e-commerce solutions in the world...

Bolt, which makes money by getting a 2% cut of purchases made through its one-click checkout...

Sounds like a solution for another problem that doesn't exist. Seems to me just another landing spot for the ever-ongoing "quantitative easing".

It’s so funny how the wokester Gen z’s think they are the first to come up with ideas like a 4 day work week or a single-sign on.
