USPS is about to charge you more for slower mail. Here’s why.

Delivery slowdowns at the U.S. Postal Service take effect Friday, and higher prices are soon to follow. The nation’s mail service is preparing to implement core components of Postmaster General Louis DeJoy’s 10-year plan for the agency, a program designed to cut costs and raise new revenue to fix its many financial problems.

The Postal Service has struggled for years with financial losses due to declining mail use, and the coronavirus pandemic exposed more issues within the agency as it struggled to cope with an avalanche of e-commerce purchases, worker availability problems and a disorganized processing network.

DeJoy, the controversial Trump ally who took over the agency months before the 2020 presidential election, introduced his vision for the agency in March with the backing of the Postal Service’s bipartisan governing board. A major component of that plan — slower service — is set to kick in.

Here’s everything you need to know about the changes at the Postal Service.

Does this mean my junk mail will be late?

I am worried that when our service resumes that our important mail will be returned but all of our junk mail will be stuffed into our mail box.

That is the part most people either don’t know or don’t understand.

I think it is guesstimated the USPS has final hands on something like 70% of all UPS/Amazon/FedEx deliveries!!

Be careful with any bill you pay by mail and the requirement is it must be *received* (not postmarked) by the due date. People are going to start seeing late fees if they missed this change to the mail service.

Bad service like not receiving bills on time or not receiving them at all forced me to use bank auto-pay, which led to buying fewer stamps, which helped the PO lose money.

It would be best if the PO had no services and charged more for them ...

William Mount is reporting that USPS had Chinese investments that went south when Evergrande failed. USPS is broke and refusing to provide service they can't pay for. Mount got a notice that a sweater delivery was to be held at the post office by customer request. He didn't make any such request. USPS is failing to deliver and lying when challenged.

I cannot for the life of me, understand why anyone would use the USPS. The service has always been extremely slow, mail is never on time, and there is no recourse when the USPS screws up the mail! One simply has to live with a lousy mail system!

.....AND.....

The lazy, slow, defiant workers can never be fired. Everyone knows what real problem is but cannot say so because the woke crowd would shout down anyone!

Getting rid of the postal union would be a good start at solving problems.

The Postal Service has struggled for years with financial losses due to declining mail use, ...as it struggled to cope with an avalanche of e-commerce purchases,

So they simultaneously have too much and too little mail?

The postal service should be privatized.

Our local is filled with new hires who really don’t GAS if you are there or not.
They also want to charge you extra if your package has breakables and you thoughtfully put a fragile sticker on it. And the rate for that is not cheap. [Not that the sticker does anything more than maybe cause the first person who touches it a moments pause: once it is in the mail stream its handled like any other.] So I make sure breakables are insured and they can pay for the broken ones.
I must say that all the majors have delivery delays with FedX ground being one of the worst. More so than the USPS...heresy, I know.

Call to have your FedEx package scheduled for Pick up at a Walgreens location. I do that to avoid hassles.

Right-The US post office has been a national joke for as long as I can remember.

I remember reading that new employees make absolutely princely salaries and it improves from then on until they retire

My personal experience with them at the counter is that they wouldn't be employable ANYWHERE else. They're totally ‘detached’ and unconcerned with what is going on. I guess they think everyone who walks in there has as much time as THEY do
