Novak Djokovic ended speculation over his Australian Open title defence by announcing on Tuesday that he would compete at the tennis season's opening Grand Slam event after receiving a medical exemption from getting vaccinated against COVID-19.
The world No. 1, who had declined to reveal his vaccination status, said previously that he was unsure whether he would compete at the Jan. 17-30 tournament in Melbourne due to concerns over Australia's quarantine rules.
"I've spent fantastic quality time with my loved ones over the break and today I'm heading Down Under with an exemption permission. Let's go 2022," the Serbian said on Instagram.

I would imagine this exemption might galvanize everyone in Australia who followed everything the government forced on the public and everyone who fought against the mandates and covid quarantine camps.
The average person in Australia is getting stomped on but the #1 ranked tennis player in world gets a pass.
Those fans don’t want freedom for anyone.

all you need to do to earn your medical freedom is win 19 major tennis titles - that’s not so unreasonable
Good for him for keeping up the fight. He has natural immunity and his physical regime is among the most stringent in sports.
But I think it comes down to the fact that Medved and rest of the nextgen don’t sell ads.
Exactly. Not going to be much of a tournament and not too many tickets will be sold if the top players don’t show up.
