Making Florida the new ‘promised land’ for education-minded families
Florida Politics ^ | January 4th 2022 | William Mattox:

Migration to Florida is being fueled in part by a very interesting factor: school choice. An exodus is underway from New York City and its surrounding environs. Many Jews are leaving the Big Apple and moving to the Sunshine State.

And their migration to Florida — America’s Promised Land — is being fueled in part by a very interesting factor: school choice.

“Many young families up north are enticed by Florida’s robust menu of state-supported private-school scholarships,” writes Allan Jacob in The Wall Street Journal. “These programs make private school tuition far more affordable in Florida than in New York and New Jersey.”

Now, at first blush, this “education migration” might seem like a peculiar phenomenon without any relevance beyond a relatively small subpopulation. But there is reason to believe that something much more significant is happening here.

There is reason to believe we are witnessing the beginning of a “new normal” in which many education-minded families move to freedom-loving states that facilitate parents’ efforts to direct the education of their children.

As a recent Forbes analysis observed, “When remote work means there’s no longer any reason to live in a high-priced, cold-weather big city, the appeal of sprawling yards, proximity to beaches and warm sunshine is undeniable.” Especially for families uninspired by their current (lack of) schooling options.

Our state’s economic development leaders ought to join Governor DeSantis in urging education-minded families with children to move here — much as they recruit major corporations to build new plants or relocate in Florida. Protestant and Catholic school leaders in our state ought to do the same, tapping into their national and regional networks, much as Florida Jews have been doing.

As long as they don’t bring leftwing voting tactics with them that is fine.

So glad there is a Florida to isolate the liberals from the rest of the country.

You know what the definition of insanity is right?

Not very knowledgeable about Orthodox Jews, are you? Way right in their voting patterns.

You are forgetting about the liberals from other states who are trooping down to FL.

You missed the earlier article today about voting registration in the state. In the last 12 months Repubs gained 140,000 more voters than Dems and for the first time we now have more R’s registered than D’s.

RATs know how to hijack elections, Pubbies do not know how to protect this from happening.

**In conclusion, Florida is in a great position to become America’s premier “education destination.” We already have the nation’s largest and most impressive school choice programs. We already have an existing education choice infrastructure that can accommodate newcomers. And we already have an entrepreneurial spirit that fosters innovation — and regularly improves our scholarship programs to help more parents find the optimal education for their children.**

In this state we do. That’s why we can finish counting and post a result the same day now.

Eh, jews are mostly in lockstep with the democrat party.

It’s also no surprise their ancestors created and maintained communism in Russia.

Well, thanks to our new governor, Ron DeSantis, shortly after his inauguration in 2019, he suspended/fired the supervisors of elections in Broward and Palm Beach counties.

The largest and third most populous counties in FL were famously corrupt.

Can’t say he positively saved FL for Trump in 2020, but it may have avoided a debacle like that of 2000.

FL is lucky to have such a good governor. My brother lives there and he loves it. I served at Tyndall(1958) when Panama City was a sleepy little fishing village.

What happened in Dade and Broward counties has been moving ever north for years.

It’s now reached St Johns county in Jax. A lot of NY/Jersey types and worse! Housing Construction destroying all the land. Traffic jams a way of life in Jax and throughout Fl.

DeSantis is a great Gov but within 2 or 3 election cycles, I predict Florida will go blue regardless of the voting block at the Villages.

A few weeks ago I packed up and left Florida after 18 years.

I lived in P-Cola for 10 years. It was a great place to live, best beaches in Florida, Joe Patti’s seafood and well behaved folks!

We moved to another part of Florida to be with our daughter.

I agree with the saying, Pensacola is more Alabama that Florida.

Read your FR Profile webpage - very good, IMHO.

Re 17th Amendment, I sometimes wonder if, it might have been written, such that, the form of election alternated at each election cycle, between a) the originally intended election by legislators of the state, and b) what is now the popular election.

Article doesn’t say how school choice works in Florida, but if they enact it the state will be wildly popular.
