The theatre of exciting events is transferred for the moment from our own coast to that of Mexico. We learn from that distracted and unhappy country that the long-impending blow has at length fallen, and that Vera Cruz is now occupied by Spanish troops. By this time, probably, the British and French contingents, appointed to operate against Mexico, have joined their forces with those of Spain, and the allies have commenced to carry out the policy adopted by the three Powers in the Convention of the 31st of October last. In connection with the news received to-day, we publish a variety of important information concerning this great European coalition. The treaty signed by the representatives of France, Spain and England develops their policy in regard to Mexico, and the naval and military strength of the expedition would seem to indicate that no transient occupation of the country is intended, but an occupation to last until some form of government, more pleasing to European statesmen than a Republic, has been securely established under a European protectorate.
