The group has been stuck since Friday around 10 p.m. because of icy conditions in the area, officials told KOAT.
One person is still stranded in the tram car along with rescue personnel. Rescue efforts were temporarily halted at 1 p.m. Saturday because of changing weather conditions.
In 1973, 41 people were stuck for 24 hours. In 1982, 49 people were stuck for five hours. Thirty years later, in 2012, 20 people were stuck for five hours and then last year 20 people were stuck for four hours.

One member wanted to try some Skoal me and others had.
Kid puked inside the car just after starting up. That was a long enough ride for that condition.
Well done.
I was living in Abq. in 73 on the phone with a buddy who worked on air at a local radio station. He intrrupted our gabbing with “I gotta go. Tram is stuck near the peak!” Click. We laughed later.
Happy New Year.
“Don’t ask me to ride on that tram, if you pleeze
I do NOT want to get stuck up there to freeze
Plus I do not want to plummet
From such a high summit
Just the thought makes me weak in the kneeze !

Good one, from the FR Poet Laureate
Sightseeing, hiking, restaurant, and skiing. Though there is highway access to the ski area, it's a much longer drive to get there. Have to go south to I-40 and then east a few miles then back north and west. There are also hiking trails. One local report said the people who were stuck were restaurant employees trying to make it down before it got too nasty. It's interesting they got caught. The tram will shut down in high winds and high winds were forecasted for yesterday evening into today, and they should have bugged out earlier, but it was New Year's Eve.
There is a small ski resort and a restaurant at the top. If you have reservation to eat the tram tickets are reduced in price.
I never went skiing there but my first trip to the Lab (Sandia) they dragged me up there to do the touristy thing. The food was pretty good and we were there for the sunset, which was spectacular. I had to take a few people up there for their obligatory visit. I never minded it as the views are fantastic and the food was pretty good.
😂😂🤣🤣
That’s an awesome experience, when it’s not stuck!
There is a certain advantage in growing older and saying: ‘Been there, done that’
While I was never stranded on the Sandia Peak tram, I did ride it many times during my skiing days.
1. Sightseers. There is a restaurant, bar, gift shop, and amazing scenic overlooks at the top. Most visitors spend a few hours on top. You can see west all the way across Albaquirky to the Rio Grande Valley. Sunsets are AMAZING.
2. There are ski slopes directly on the east side of Sandia Mtn. When you get off the tram, you can begin a ski run. You can get a season pass, and the tram is sort of your big ski lift. It gets you right to the top of the slopes.
3. In summertime, with no snow, the slopes are epic mountain big runs.
Anybody who visits AlbaQuirky absolutely must experience the tram!
Also, anybody who visits Palm Springs, CA, must experience that tram as well. Worth every penny X2.
Pls see 29

Forgot to mention. You and your mountain bike ride back to the top on the same ski lifts! Mostly this is for youngsters, like UNM students, but I’m told it is EPIC.
Thanks!
Just hang on to the other passengers.
I'm happy you enjoyed my poem, thanks mucho.
Slight correction.....I'm the self-appointed "Poet Laureate-ette" of FR. I try to be as politically incorrect as I can, LOL !

Where did they pee?
I have done the mountain bike runs on Sandia Peak. They are great, but many ski areas in Colorado do the same thing for summer revenue.
