The group has been stuck since Friday around 10 p.m. because of icy conditions in the area, officials told KOAT.
One person is still stranded in the tram car along with rescue personnel. Rescue efforts were temporarily halted at 1 p.m. Saturday because of changing weather conditions.
In 1973, 41 people were stuck for 24 hours. In 1982, 49 people were stuck for five hours. Thirty years later, in 2012, 20 people were stuck for five hours and then last year 20 people were stuck for four hours.

Glad I wasn’t there. I’d be the dude that had to take a sh*t.
Looks like it’s just sightseeing.

Could be either. But skiers are usually early riders.
The tram takes you near a ski slope on the back side of the Peak,. There was a steakhouse at the top called High Finance. Went there years ago, not sure if the restaurant is still open. Tram ride was pretty long, and great views. Not sure I’d want to sleep overnight in one though…
*raises hand*
Weary Sheriff’s Dept Community Liaison: Yes...?
Me: *in an eager ‘girl reporter’ tone* Did it smell like pee in there?
Years ago, there was a good restaurant at the top and it was common to take the tram up for dinner. Now, it’s just a tourist ride up and down. However, sux to be stuck. I wonder if they at least had a p-can of some sort. Not to mention the passengers freezing their ***** off waiting.
You just open the door and let fly. Hopefully the wind is at your back.
Just check the net and evidently the restaurant at the top of Sandia is back in business.
I guess busting a window out wasn’t an option?
Mrs. Slim and I were married on the Crest, and had the reception at the High Finance Restaurant. It was torn down a few years back (it was originally built in the 60’s) and a new restaurant built. You can get to the ski area from the tram or cross country ski. It’s a lot easier than the approximately 35 mile drive from town, and the crest road can be sketchy in bad weather.
Harder to hang the old poop chute out the door and not fall out.
I’ve been on that tram.
Not a place I’d want to be stuck on.
You couldn't get me on one of those things for a million dollars, no matter the view !
Don't ask me to ride on that tram, if you pleeze
I do NOT want to get stuck up there to freeze
Plus I do not want to plummet
From such a high summit
Just the thought makes me weak in the kneeze !

Something about doing the same thing over and over.......
Just shut the damn thing down if conditions look chancy. Going to lose a load of passengers one of these time you keep this up.
