If Reagan were President Today....

If Ronald Reagan were president today.....

Today, the first day of 2022 we wake up $29.5 Trillion in debt. The GDP is $23.4 Trillion, resulting in a GDP / Debt ratio of 126%.

When President Reagan left office in 1989 the GDP / Debt was just 50% not the 126% it is today under Biden, Pelosi, Schumer.

With today's GDP of 23.4 T the Debt would only be $11.7 T not 29.5 T under Reagan's policies, could you imagine a country with $18 T less debt?

In 2021 alone the Debt per citizen increased from $83,926 to $87,477 or an increase of $3551.

I'm resolved to vote out and to encourage others to vote out anyone in office pre-2001.

They have engineered policies that have put us in massive debt, brought in illegals, brought in terrorists on 911 and the Boston Marathon Bomber, they brought us to war, then surrendered, they need to go. Republican or Democrat.

If Reagan were President Today....

I'd wear a younger man's clothes.

Reagan almost tripled the national debt. That’s not a winner.

True, but the spending had a purpose - winning the Cold War. We also massively increase debt to win WW2. But then, even Democrats understood the moral obligation to keep debts and spending under control, and our expanding post-war economy erased the debt. Sadly, that never happened starting with the Clinton years, although Speaker Gingrich did his best.

The Debt was held at 50% of GDP, it’s 126% today. I’ll take the 50%.

But he started that around 30%. He almost doubled that as well.

“If Ronald Reagan were president today,”

He’d still be facing the same lying house he did in the 80’s that tried to cripple him financially.

The fight over domestic vs. defense spending: November 20 to 23, 1981

The battle over funding jobs vs. missiles: December 17 to 21, 1982

Support for El Salvador’s rebels becomes a sticking point: November 10 to 14, 1983

Back-to-back crime and punishment shutdowns: September 30 to October 3, then October 3 to 5, 1984

Welfare funding causes a two-day shutdown: October 16 to 18, 1986

Contras in Nicaragua inspire a scandal and a shutdown: December 18 to 20, 1987

This sound like Congress was working with Reagan. A shutdown is a very big thing. But they made a habit of it to pester him.

Reagan almost tripled the national debt. That’s not a winner.

That might not have been the case had he not had a Democrat-controlled House during his entire presidency and a Democrat-controlled Senate during his final two years,

The INF Treaty would still be in effect.

If Reagan were President Today...

…he would be facing a “real debt” scenario (with underfunded liabilities) of around 300 trillion. Would he be tempted to approve euthanasia jabs for 65+ year olds…?

I doubt much would be different, honestly presidents aren’t that powerful, remember a lot of this debt happened without even a budget debate, much less vote. And really, 11 trillion in debt, 29 trillion in debt... there’s no functional difference, just ridiculously high numbers because we just plain spend too much.

If Ronald Reagan were alive today, he’d be the second oldest living man in the country and the longest survivor of Alzheimer’s on record.

So except for the red hair, he’d be virtually indistinguishably from Let’s Go Brandon!
