I am thinking of putting in a salsify patch. My question is, how invasive are they? Like ramps or like mint? Or worse, like morning glory or horsetail!

We have plenty of place for them to spread but would rather not have the neighbors showing up with pitchforks and torches.

We live in a zone 5 area. Plenty of water.

I buy those plastic sterilite boxes. Put a bag of miracle gro potting mix in it , cut the top label out, throw lettuce, other greens over it. Water it, and you can have lettuce, etc every day.

Seed packs used to be much more attractive, like the example you posted.

I have mint that escaped and is now trying to take over—anyone have any suggestions? It’s winter with snow, so it is dormant now, but come Spring, it will be on the move :(

Oh boy, I heard about mint being invasive. I grew Mojito Mint last summer, but kept it in a nursery pot to control it. Hated to pitch the plant before winter, but I can just get another free cutting and pot it up again. Made refreshing Gin and Tonics with crushed mint last summer.

I will probably have to put black plastic down, kill grass or anything around it and then reseed

Sounds like a good plan. The mint I had in a big nursery pot had very thick roots. What a vigorous plant. Started out as a few cuttings in early May. I could barely get it out of the pot. Tasted great in a drink, so I will grow some again.

Sorry I couldn’t open any of your photos, I’d love to see them!

I use this site: https://postimages.org/ ...

to post photos from my photo library - choose the “post to website” option to post on FR and it should work perfectly.

So much interesting news! Love that the kids like ‘your’ chicken, now. I made stock last week - I do the same and stockpile my carcasses. Good stuff!

Score on the hay! The guy that rents crop land from us pays us rent, but also gives us six HUGE square bales of hay for the mule and whatever steer we’re raising for the winter, as well as whatever straw I need for my garden beds, so that works out well for us, too. (I usually got through 10-12 of the small bales for that.)

Happy New Year!

So glad you got rain! I lived in Imperial Beach from 1980-’82 and we were in a drought then, too.

Mom is a model train buff, and she ‘runs’ her trains at our local Botanical Garden in Christmastime. This year they had over 10,00 people visit, earning the gardens a cool $50K! When they break down the displays, she always gets some ‘freebies’ to take home, so this year she got a Poinsettia, an Orchid and then yesterday was describing to me what could only be a Cyclamen. She described the leaf first, so that was easy, LOL!

Happy New Year!

Read the book, ‘The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning,’ or watch some You Tube videos on the subject. It sounds horrible, but it really helps cut the clutter.

I’m 61 now, and have no one to leave my ‘stuff’ to (other than my Sister who will steal my good jewelry off my cold, lifeless body), so I am in CONSTANT de-clutter mode.

I’m pretty happy with my closets, but dresser drawers need some work. And I own too many socks, but this IS Wisconsin where I don’t think that’s a possibility! I am NOT a ‘minimalist’ by any stretch when it comes to home decor, not to mention all the taxidermy animals belonging to Beau that fill our home, LOL! :)

Meh. Sis knows where the St. Vincent’s is for charitable donations, and she reads as much as I do, so she’ll keep the books, I’m sure. ;)
