Knoxville man Barry Linson committed to a goal he set at the beginning of 2021: one million push-ups in one year.
To meet his goal, the former college football player had to average 3,500 push-ups per day.
“What’s the most pushups I’ve ever done in a day? 5,000,” he said.
Even with his relentless positivity, the journey to one million wasn’t always easy. “I came out one morning and my truck was stolen. I panicked but I still did the push-ups,” said Linson.

If I can get to 100 pushups a day, I'd be happy with that fitness level.
Supposedly Hershel Walker did 2000 push ups and 2000 sit ups every day and never lifted weights. So there’s that.
I’m happy when I don’t wake up with a new pain!
Happy new year to all!
In 2020 between bicycle riding outside and on my smart trainer using Zwift I rode 6250 miles. This year I stumbled some, managed only 3000 miles. My claim to fame was a charity bicycle ride, 65 miles I did this in 3 hours 33 minutes including a 2 minute stop to fill water bottles. That was in August and after that I took a 10 week bicycle vacation that was a mistake.
So starting Jan 1st I plan on 6000 miles 2022. I will do 20 mile rides 6 days a week, that will get me there.
This thread has me thinking that i should do push-ups and maybe even dips. If I start at 50 push-ups and 10 dips a day then ramp up to 100, that would give me about 20k PUs which i think is better than nothing.
Besides all this I want to spend more time this year on doing projects around the house and teaching myself how to cook and possibly plant a kitchen garden. I spend too much time riding bikes and I’m a competitive handgun shooter, will cut way back on that and put the vast sums of money I spend on that into a ROTH IRA. I plan on retirement in 4-6 years.
“...that into a ROTH IRA. I plan on retirement in 4-6 years.”
If I had to do out over again...
...except for what I needed to contribute to capture my employer’s 401k matching contribution, I wouldn’t have put a single thin dime into ANY kind of “retirement account”; I’d have invested it all AFTER taxes in a Brokerage account — Schwab, E*Trade... pick one. Get an S&P Index fund, a handful of individual securities, a variety of market sector mutual funds...
These Congress-created accounts — you’ve gotta be up over 100% to net out more than Uncle Sam is gonna get out of the deal.
“Reminds me of basketball as a kid.”
Basketball and Football our coaches loved the line drill. 10yd back, 20yd & back... grueling.
I never thought you could sweat in water until swim team.
Now when I see kids at the beach running all day long (practically), I can’t really remember doing that, but my siblings assure me that we all did.
These days it’s physical therapy type of workouts for me. Flexibility, balance, calisthenics, resistance and toning. It’s a nice work out and it is necessary for range of motion, and strength, paying attention to form throughout the span of each exercise. I have to walk more though.
“Came out one morning and my truck was stolen... devil’s not going to win...
Meaning he does not raise himself fully up each time with arms extended but only halfway. Still...
I do fifty most mornings. That’s plenty for me.

My wife does Pilates using mostly body weight.
Pilates a German, developed his system while in an English internment camp.
Lacking an understanding of Pilates training, I ask my wife about the deep knee bends she does and how many.
Fifteen she said... three sets...of two different types (knees together and knees apart)
NINETY TOTAL,-—90!!!-— Hell! I can’t even count that high.

I WAS a very active bicycle rider, even moved my retirement date a few months to have an additional summer...
An evil car ran me down! 6 Jun 2012, 10 days unconscious, PT for a year...Back on the road, the cars scared the crap out of me.
More time on the bike rollers and less on the roads.
A couple of years and I quit the roads and purchased a Realryder spin bike, a good workout but every time I see a cyclist on the road I want out! And each time I go out I’m VERY UNCOMFORTABLE.
Also did lots of rowing but the rowing machine is shared with our daughter /son-in-law at their home gym... covid and the grandkids slowed that down.
I found the bike and the rower to be a great combination workout!
Now it is heart rate-based training lots of HIIT and base training ...All inside.
Have you ever attempted target practice with your heart at max?
I have a 10M range in my basement.
Return to the house hot and maximum heart rate...
Hands into cold water and dry off...Rust is very bad stuff!
The sight picture is wild! And uncontrollable. Even prone rifle!!!
And by the time I’m in position, my HR is down to ~90%, still wild.
The biathlon guys are shooting 50m and their HR is near the moon!
Good luck on 6k miles!
My best was 5200 outside.
