Knoxville man Barry Linson committed to a goal he set at the beginning of 2021: one million push-ups in one year.

To meet his goal, the former college football player had to average 3,500 push-ups per day.

“What’s the most pushups I’ve ever done in a day? 5,000,” he said.

Even with his relentless positivity, the journey to one million wasn’t always easy. “I came out one morning and my truck was stolen. I panicked but I still did the push-ups,” said Linson.

My New Guru.

Fell on the ice last year, kept with the bike but no upper bodywork. Started eccentric push-ups in September... Don't laugh, now doing 16 push-ups! A big thing for me. Previously did 50 every night and that is my goal.

Good luck to him, and all who try to improve.

Split them up during the day. The body recovers enough strength right away to pump a few more out.

If you make a point of doing as much as you can during the day and rest at night, you’ll make amazing progress.

Setbacks are annoying at this age, healing is slow. I’m on my way to 50 pushups, recent high was 40. I’m not coming back from an injury of course. Good luck with your work, you’ll get there.

Reminds me of basketball as a kid.

100 layups in a row using the entire court back and forth.

Miss one, start over.

Dear friend, it is almost universally accepted that close counts in push-ups. The one exception is some Japanese guy with the world’s one-set record.

In case you have forgotten, a simple line to remember:

CLOSE COUNTS WITH PUSH-UPS AND HAND GRENADES.

If he wasn’t doing all those push-ups, he may have kept his truck from being stolen. I’m not knocking his Extreme devotion to push-ups, but there is more to life than just doing 1 million push-ups each year.

Yup. Watching the video, all I could hear was my old drill sergeant counting "One, one, one, one..."

It’s actually more like 2800, but hey he’s on a roll.

—”Split them up during the day.”

I’m slightly embarrassed to admit this but after an hour+ on the bike with a good HR ~85% I’m doing 4 sets of 4 push-ups.

Doing eccentric and knee push-ups each morning.

This is a big deal to me, I did 50 a night going back 50 plus years.
A peak experience for me was having a young buck announce at work that he could do 70!
We bet lunch, I prevailed, and was he pissed!
And even more so, that I simply passed his number by one and stopped, the thought I should go for max.
That was a few years back and he was still aggravated.

My days of crushing enemies and driving them before me are passed. But I still get to have fun.

>Fell on the ice last year

Same thing happened to me. Forgot my hockey skates when I took my daughter skating. Was going really fast and the back of my rental skate caught the front and I hit my shoulder hard.

Couldn’t do a push up for a month, but now I’m back on the push ups again.

I’m going to bench press 225lbs every day. One rep, 225lbs, every day, for 365 days. Good for me. What have i done?

Not much.

Your body will grow, improve, get stronger, until you stop demanding it get stronger beyond that point.

For instance, you will NEVER get to a 300lb bench press by only doing his workout.

The day this gentleman could easily do 3,500 pushups a day, every day, is the day he stopped growing and improving. Because your body is not going to give you more than you demand of it.

I applaud his motivation and enthusiasm, and if he’s happy being at that fitness level, that’s great. He certainly seems to be an inspiration for some. But I’m not sure he’s such a great role model. A person can achieve a greater level of fitness without boring himself to death and giving up because of the boredom.

I just watched the ball fall in NYC Times square and once again they played the Communist national anthem “Imagine” and the commie Mayor DeBlasio lowered the ball. How about playing America the beautiful for once?
