See dramatic change in California’s drought in just 1 week

As rain continued to dump rain on much of Southern California and snow covered mountain peaks Thursday, we could see an even better map this time next week.

The Sierra Nevada range has seen more snow than in over a decade, and that’s good news for California’s snowpack. One spot near Lake Tahoe has recorded a whopping 17 feet of snow so far, a record for the month of December.

Snow in the mountains has meant rain, rain and more rain along the coast, especially in the Bay Area. San Francisco has seen one of its rainiest early winters since the 1980s.

Lake Oroville was full to overflowing two years ago. There was a FIVE YEAR volume of water stored behind the dam.

California DWP released so much water that the powerplant had to shut down in August, because the intakes for the turbines were no longer submerged. The marinas had to extend the boat ramps to 40-50-60 feet below normal low water marks.

They will let all this water go too. Gotta keep the plebs skeered!

No matter. The media will spin it into a bad thing, no matter what. It’s what they do. It’s what they always have done.

“There was a FIVE YEAR volume of water stored behind the dam.”

That’s a damnable lie promulgated by commercial farmers and their lobbyists.

There was 5 years of FARM IRRIGATION IF NO OTHER ALLOCATIONS WERE MADE.

Like it was ALL their water.

Not counting the water they withhold from farmers and let flow unimpeded into the Pacific, of course...

Out of about 15 reporting stations in the Sierra, Boreal Ski Resort takes the prize for December, reporting 226 inches of snow this month

If the reservoirs fill, my guess is that the idiots running the state will empty them in just a couple of years, as they did before, to help some obscure species like the smelts, and then bitch about the new climate-change caused water shortage.

Most of California is a desert. The drought is the historical norm

Of course we don’t. People don’t need to eat, right?

May I quote you in a year?

80% of the World's Almonds Come From California.

What do you suppose the 2% that California eats would cost if if the remaining 20% of the world's supply has to feed 100% of the world's demand?

I'm sure Spain, Italy, and Australia would LOVE the new high farm prices!

As would the people shipping them across the globe, and the people providing the carbon based fuel for that shipping.

God forbid a hard working AMERICAN farmer would have a pace at the table!

Besides, Bill Gates isn't done buying up farmland and removing it from production. That 90% of the world's population "They" want to reduce isn't going to starve itself!

Yes, I was wondering the same, what might they do to retain that water as it melts? On the Nevada side, maybe they could restore Pyramid Lake which dropped 83 feet when they diverted the Truckee River from this Indian Reservation many, many years ago.

On the positive side, all othe rain in San Francisco may finally help clean up the streets.

The current federal mandate is that 1/2 the water goes to the sea."

Wait, shouldn't we stop all water from flowing into the ocean to help reduce alleged sea level rise?

Democrats must be very disappointed that a natural catastrophe isn’t available to capitalize on.

But reservoirs don’t do any good when the idiots in the government drain them into the ocean and waste a good 7 year supply of water.

“...they spend their time outlawing gas leaf blowers.”

They outlawed wood-burning stoves, years ago, and even much worse insanity is yet to come.

Good point. Build reservoirs & get rid of the idiots in government.

Easier said than done.
