Tiger is shot and killed at Florida zoo after BITING a cleaner's arm when he entered the animal enclosure and stuck his hand through the fence to pet it

An endangered tiger was shot and killed in its zoo enclosure after biting a cleaner who had entered an 'unauthorized area' next to its cage.

Deputies arrived at Naples Zoo in Florida to find the animal with the man's arm in its mouth and said they were 'forced to shoot' to free him.

The maintenance worker was airlifted to the hospital with serious injuries.

Collier County Sheriff's Office confirmed the victim was a man with a third-party cleaning service contracted by the zoo.

Reports suggest the Malayan tiger, named as eight-year-old Eko, had grabbed the man's arm after he reached through a fence barrier in an attempt to pet or feed the animal.

The sheriff's office said the first deputy on the scene tried to get the tiger to release the man after kicking the enclosure.

But when the tiger wouldn't release the man's arm, the officer was forced to shoot.

The tiger retreated into the back of the enclosure and was later pronounced dead.

A police spokesperson said: 'The first deputy on scene kicked the enclosure and tried to get the tiger to release the man's arm from its mouth but the deputy was forced to shoot the animal.'

they need to tranq gun such an animal, extract the idiot, not always just shoot the animal for the fault of a moron

and then change the enclosure for that animal so morons cannot place the animal in that type of situation again

A human life is worth infinitely more than a tiger’s.

Placing higher value on the lives of animals is part of the brainwashing of cultural Marxism.

While I don’t disagree, and would have felt no sympathy for the guy if he got killed - hard to fault the cops here. They carry guns, they don’t carry tranquilizer darts - and probably only had a few seconds to a few minutes to make a decision on how to try and save the idiots life.

Yeah, they shot him because he wouldn’t let go, not just because he bit him.

He must have held on for awhile if he was still holding him when the police got there. Changes the situation a bit. At the end of the day human outweighs animal.

Still sucks though.

The “Darwin Award” saga on this website is deserving of its own reward.

This is because those who fall for it do so from low IQ.

Higher IQ understands the value of human life.

Lower IQ falls for the “Darwin Award” nonsense.

Exactly. Why kill a tiger for doing what tigers do?

A human life is worth infinitely more than a tiger’s.

In the case of this moron, I'm not so sure.

It’s bad enough to hold the animal captive.......but to kill it for doing what God designed it to do??? Bull Butter......fire everyone responsible!!!!

200 of these critters remain in the wild. One is dead as a direct result of the actions of a person who trespassed at least 2 barriers to get at the animal.

To say that’s a damn shame and the guy is an effing idiot who deserves to pay heavily for his actions, and is deserving of little or no sympathy, isn’t brainwashing or cultural Marxism, it’s common sense.

the cleaner should be charged for the expense of replacing the tiger. He is the one who provoked the tiger in the first place. Who in their right mind sticks their hand into a tiger enclosure?

Maybe Zoos need to put all new employees through a basic animal care workshop, do’s and dont’s if you want to keep all your body parts intact.
