Over the last year we have had long-awaited adaptions of classic science fiction and fantasy stories finally reach our screens, from Dune to Foundation to Wheel of Time. And the good times are set to continue with a tidal wave of big sci-fi and fantasy stories set to hit our screens in 2022.

This handpicked list of upcoming highlights doesn’t include a few big adaptations that we touched on in last year’s list but are still yet to reach our screens. So check our 2020 rundown for a look at titles including The Lord of the Rings, Sandman, Halo and The Last of Us.

Avatar 2 (December, cinemas) A recently released logo offering the only official look to date at the branding of the upcoming sequels A recently released logo offering the only official look to date at the branding of the upcoming sequels20th Century Studios/Avatar The success of Avatar feels like a distant memory from a time back in 2010 when 3D films still impressed and Marvel hadn’t taken over the world. As the years passed, James Cameron’s plans for one sequel expanded into four more films, which would be shot back to back.

We now know Cameron has already shot most of episodes two and three, with Avatar 2 rumored to explore ocean worlds of the planet Pandora. Love it or hate it you will be seeing a lot more of the Avatar world over the next few years, and James Cameron is such an obsessive innovator these films will at the very least be technologically impressive.

Check out The Expanse.

It's a great show except for all the godawful "woke" crap in it. Most of the couples are homosexual and of course they have to make certain everyone watching knows that they are HOMOSEXUAL couples.

Then there is all the "Warrior Princesses". All the women are geniuses and super powerful in armed combat with men.

The plot is good, but all the stupid distractions make the show less quality than it could have been.

Well the Source has a male half and a female half. The taint on the male half is what does the damage.

Which is why The Expanse is good - because they bought the property already developed and there was no room to insert woke SJW crap.

It is full of "woke" social justice crap. It's a good story but severely degraded by all the "woke" crap they keep putting in it.

I am down to last episode right now. The guy that is with Moraine was with one of the women, although I think he has slept with Moraine also. And of course she sleeps with the queen. It’s complicated.

Well I may finish it tonight and see. It’s okay, just drivel to watch. I prefer Succession and Billions.

Not impressed. I love science fiction, and I don’t understand why there’s so many remakes of Classics instead of new original stores

One book that comes to mind which could make an awesome movie is “Wool” by Hugh Howey. Great read. Good characters. Interesting plot. I think it’s one of the best sci-fi books I’ve ever read including many of the classics by Heinlein or Asimov.

Your right - I forgot the early parts where they had so much I considered not watching it any more.

Right. Woke SJW turns everything into mindless drivel.

Same here but I am very skeptical it will be any good.
The “chemistry” between the actors/actresses of the original series will be very very difficult to reproduce.

It is worth seeing because the story is really good, but I just wanted to warn you that it has a lot of “woke” crap in it.

I think it was the first episode in which they proclaim the United Nations controls planet earth and it's armada of space ships and missiles. I almost shut it off right there, because the UN running the planet really pisses me off.

And of course the Mars Ambassador is a "gay" man "married" to another "gay" man.

It's still a good show, but you have to be prepared to groan a lot at the stupid liberal "woke" crap they want to shove in your face.

I’ll still pass. My “woke” tolerance is tapped out.

“so many remakes of Classics instead of new original stories”

Agreed.

Any of the wonderful novels by Robert Charles Wilson would make great movies.

Kage Baker is not that well known but her books would be excellent for movies or even TV series.

I could list dozens of more authors with amazing SF books...

There was plenty of drivel out there before Sjw came along.

I’m new to Cowboy Bebop. I watched the anime series around Thanksgiving and have been slowly catching episodes of the (now-cancelled) live-action series.

I’m enjoying the live-action series a lot more than I thougt I would, given the backlash and cancellation. I think the match between the actors and their characters are near-perfect. And I enjoy the backstories more than the original, though I understand fans of the original think that ought never to have been tampered with.

There is that, but in a later episode it show that Earth being run by the UN is a mess, with much of the populace surviving on a basic income with little prospect for a meaningful career. There is also the high level of corruption in the ruling elites, which is part of the cause for the rift between Earth and Mars and Earth and the Belters. All in all, interesting in its complexity.
