Absolutely NO MESS with ours, especially compared to cooking it in the oven, in a frying pan, or in a toaster oven. No spatter all over the place and no smoke if you stay below 400 degrees F. The nonstick coating in the basket and grate made cleanup a breeze, too.
In picture four, there is a cute picture of somebody petting the horse. Do you have one of someone petting the pig?
LOL...how often have you run across commercials for a meat processing plant?
Steaks are awesome in an air fryer. My air fryer has a glass window going round the base of the lid. It allows me to check as it cooks.
I use a 3” elevated rack and put the steak in the center. Depending on thickness it’s generally 450 degrees, 7 mins each side for a medium-well steak. I marinade the steak beforehand in the fridge for 3 days.
For med-rare it’s 2 mins per side for 10 mins so 5 turnovers.
Since I live alone, I got tired of opening up a package of bacon, and having it go bad before I could eat it all. I like thick-cut bacon, and cook a whole package of it in the oven. I line two cookie sheets with foil. Lay the bacon out side-by-side. Set the oven for 325 degrees, and the timer for 25 minutes. Put the cookie sheets on two separate racks in the oven. When the 25 minutes is up, I rotate the cookie sheets on the racks, and set the timer for another 10 minutes. When it’s done, I take the sheets out of the oven, and let them cool. I then stack the bacon strips on top of layers of paper towels, put the stack in a plastic container, and stick it in the fridge. When I want bacon for breakfast, I take a couple of slices out of the container, throw them into a frying pan with some sausages, and the bacon cooks up nice and crisp. The bacon stays well in the plastic container for as long as it needs to be stored. Most times, clean-up requires nothing more than throwing the foil away. If bacon grease does get on the cookie sheets, I just throw them in my dishwasher, and let that do the cleaning.
Hire someone to clean that thing or take all the batteries out of your smoke alarms. Just sayin.
That’s just it. There’s no smell in the house at all, and they are very easy to clean.
“...7 mins each side for a medium-well steak.”
MEDIUM-WELL!?!?
BLASPHEMER!
HEATHEN!
Anyone with a palette knows MEDIUM-RARE is the most a steak should be cooked. Anything more than M-R and you’re cooking the flavor out.
Why do people insist on chewing shoe leather slathered with sauces and claim it to be good?
Okay, my blood pressure is easing down now.
We were using that oven technique before, too. We bought a couple of small wire racks to sit inside the foil-lined cookie sheet. That got the bacon off the foil for even browning on all sides. I’m amazed how the air fryer can cook the bacon in only 8 - 10 minutes whereas it takes 20 - 30 minutes in the oven.
That’s my experience so far, too. Hardly any smell and all the mess is contained in the basket which is VERY easy to clean. It’s the fastest, easiest-to-clean way to cook I’ve found. I’m sold!
How is cleanup with no drain?
One thing I like about grilling is the bacon grease goes into a holder I can pour off into a container. Looks like you have to wipe the entire drawer.
My big question with all of that greasy steam and splatter is, how is it cleaning the underside of the top of the unit. Looks like it would be a pain.
Air fryer good.
Why it’s Mr. Bill with bacon! What’s that Mr. Bill?
please don’t eat me...
Out of curiosity, I just looked at the heating element above the basket for the first time. I wanted to see if it needed cleaning and how to clean it. It is just an electric stove spiral heating element with the convection fan above it. I can't believe how clean it is! This is after cooking two dishes, the bacon and the salmon...
Exactly!
How else are you supposed to make the cream gravy?

I have an air fryer, but have only used it a couple of times. I don’t have room for most of my appliances on my counters as I live in an apartment. They’re all in my walk-in hall closet, and I have to drag them out if I want to use them, then drag them back after they’re cleaned. The main reason I use the oven method, is that I live alone, and got tired of throwing away bacon that I didn’t get to use right away. I can cook all the bacon in one shot, then store it in my fridge, then use what I want, when I want. The best thing is I’m not throwing bacon away, which I’d hate to do when it’s so darned expensive these days.
The ranch is beautiful! It’s what I imagine my future home being like :)
I pour bacon grease in the pan before frying my bacon. It’s like deep frying and it turns out great.
