A semitruck completed an 80-mile route in Arizona with no human on board and no human intervention during the trip using technology developed by TuSimple, the company said Wednesday.
The nighttime trip earlier this month started at a railyard in Tucson, Arizona and ended at a distribution center in Phoenix with approval and supervision from the Arizona Department of Transportation and law enforcement.
A lead vehicle scouted the route for unexpected obstacles about five miles ahead of the autonomous semi, and a trailing vehicle following about one-half mile behind the truck was prepared to intervene if necessary, along with several unmarked police vehicles.
Founded in 2015, TuSimple says it has 70 autonomous trucks globally and two million miles of road testing completed.

How long until they have AI cops to pull them over and give them tickets?
Elevators, in whatever orientation, do not have to deal with deer darting out onto the road, drunk drivers veering into their lanes, debris on the road, etc, etc.
Go ahead and turn on the autopilot, but take your eyes off the road at your own peril.
IC CHiPs patrol.
—”How long until they have AI cops to pull them over and give them tickets?”
Just as soon as an outlaw trucker conceals a human to override the system to make some time.
Then it will be “security” check points on the roads looking for human over drivers.
Next, it will be all autonomous all the time, interlopers will be stopped by any means necessary. LAW/RPG...EMF kill zones on highways.
“The road to hell is paved with good intentions.”
When’s the last time you heard of a fuel tank in a gasoline powered vehicle exploding for no apparent reason?
When’s the last time you heard a tesla spontaneously combusted for no apparent reason?
Evidentaly the rear “trailing car” had the ability to shut the truck down, or manually override it. Wow I’m impressed. It was a human controlled truck and it even had a forward scout car to prepare for any unexpected situations. I drove tractor and trailer for 30 years, and believe me, sometimes you have to make decisions and take chances that no machine is ever going to be capable of.
The human trafficking operation of the cartel is going to love this. No driver to pay, squeal, or create evidence that leads back to the cartel.

My neighbor’s new car went up in flames parked in the garage one afternoon, all by itself.
Taking the garage, house and most of his worldly possessions with it.
IT HAPPENS!

Last I have heard ALL of the self-drivers currently have a copilot in a control room.
This is done to build experience in the real world.
The one fatal accident had the copilot sitting in the front seat, playing with a phone when they ran a woman over, DEAD.
Waste of money and time...
Once I get the truck-teleportation facility finished, there will be no long-distance trucks on the roads...
Does its sides open up and robots spill out?
—”Does its sides open up and robots spill out?”
Only after the human driver takes control for the local roads, over-corrects and lays it on its side.
—”Once I get the truck-teleportation facility finished”
Now, that is the way to go!
How far off is your IPO?
And do you have a foolproof method of keeping bugs out of the transport chamber?

—””Helluva day, isn’t it?””
Johnny does not belong to the Teamsters or any other union.
No pit stops are needed!
The only way this will work over 50% of the time is if there are no passenger vehicles. Then go for it. But as a trucker of over 40 years, this is dangerous as any loaded weapon.
"And do you have a foolproof method of keeping bugs out of the transport chamber?
Intend to have the first group of "test" drivers include Knees Harris, Mengele Fauci, Moochelle O., and the entire Squad...😳
Might worry about the bugs based on test results...
Semi jackknifes on icy road.

I would like to see how a autonomous truck would have handle this along with all the other autonomous vehicles around it.
