How else can auto makers meet the requirement of a 55 mpg fleetwide average by model year 2026?
Under the guise of regulating greenhouse-gas emissions, the Environmental Protection Agency recently announced new, more stringent fuel-efficiency standards for passenger cars and light-duty trucks.
The real purpose of higher fuel-efficiency standards is to impose an electric-vehicle mandate by regulatory fiat, because there is little chance that Congress will enact legislation banning the sale of internal-combustion vehicles.
For those who drive hundreds of miles every day, as some rural consumers do, having to spend hours recharging an EV isn’t practical. It isn’t even possible when storms cause power outages.
The EPA’s new diktat also will encourage consumers to drive their current higher-polluting internal-combustion vehicles longer, rather than replace them with more costly vehicles subject to higher fuel-efficiency standards.
The EPA’s new rule will harm consumers and do little if anything for the environment. Such is the reality of the virtue-signaling environmental policies the current administration is imposing.

Buy cars in pairs. It’s easier to do the same repair job twice on essentially the same vehicle.
Same tools, same process that one has already learned....
All-Electric vehicles are a stupid idea from the word ‘go’. The electrical distribution plant isn’t designed to handle the massive increase in power consumption that such a scheme requires.
Diesel electrics actually make a fair amount of sense, and it is long-time proven technology that has, for decades moved massive amounts of freight across this former republic of ours. However, diesel engines are an anathema to the left, so they won’t push this proven technology. Even the gas/electric hybrids don’t really compare from an efficiency standpoint.
All of this electric crap is being pushed entirely by politics, and not reality, efficiency, or reason.
Modern petrol engines are amazingly efficient compared to those of just a few decades ago. (Same goes for diesels) I’m not sure how much more you can squeeze out of them beyond very marginal tweaking.
Yet, the communists and other assorted whackjobs want us driving coal powered vehicles.
2.08 gears + over Drive = 55 mpg +
Hot Rod magazine had article about a guy built an old milk truck with a 4 cylinder diesel and a turbo 350 GM transmission and took a trip with his son the truck didn’t come out of low gear until 60 MPH.
This was nowhere more self-evident than the impact that the bicycle had (specifically the safety bicycle) on the Women's Suffrage movement because it provided women the utility to travel with relative ease and freedom that didn't involve public transportation, horses or the permission of their husbands.
In an era when censorship of and disinformation in all electronic media is rampant, the freedom to peaceably assemble once again looms large. And the battery-only electric vehicle potentially gives the government an ability to limit freedom of individual movement such as is unprecedented in this nation's history.
In no small part because a wide scale adoption of the BEV would result in the collapse of our electric grid. And as we've seen in Kommiefornia, one of the first casualties of rolling blackouts is the power source for Ed Begley Jr's dream car.
—”2.08 gears + over Drive = 55 mpg +”
Moving in traffic behind a friend in his old diesel stickshift p/u, I wondered why he was rolling through all the stops?
Turns out, his ankle was bothering him and he did not want to use the clutch!
Just slow until it starts to bog and give it a bit of juice... No clutch action needed.
<>We’ll be having rolling blackouts from sea to shining sea before they can trade 5% (15 million) of ICE vehicles for battery-only EVs.<>
Nothing the democrat party does makes sense until one realizes that absolute power is their goal.
To achieve absolute power they must first destroy the middleclass. With control of the juice, they can drive middle and rural America into poverty.
I can’t believe how many Freepers are onboard with EVs, a weapon against both liberty and the middleclass.
EVs are typically vanity purchases of the well-off subsidized by working men and women.
