The first Taiga electric snowmobiles have gone into production, customer deliveries expected to follow in early 2022Taiga Motors VIEW 6 IMAGES

Back in 2018, Quebec's Taiga Motors announced an all-electric snowmobile called the TS2 that could get up to 100 km/h in just 3 seconds. The company tweaked the design the following year, and expanded the model range to three. Now the first consumer-ready vehicles have rolled off the production line.

"Today represents the shared dream and vision of our entire organization coming to life as the first snowmobiles come off the production line. I am proud of the demonstrated ability and perseverance from employees who together have overcome challenges as we navigate unprecedented supply chain volatility," said Taiga CEO Sam Bruneau. "With the sleds soon ready for the snow, we are excited by the idea of our customers being able to ride on these cutting-edge machines that embody winter exploration without compromise."

Plus you can start a fire with the gas if you break down.

It’s a hell of a lot easier to pack an emergency gas can than it is an emergency battery pack.

Gas can is lighter too...

Be sure to tow a compact Honda generator behind it.

And if you’re in a group you can share gas if someone needs some.

Flint-steel and a wire camp saw are in my cold weather kit. That could take us off on a whole other conversation though...

ICE’s are King until the -e folks figure out how to GENERATE onboard power rather than just STORING it.

Ever get stuck in deep snow on a snowmobile?

I’d imagine you’d drain that battery very quickly.

I suppose this is vaguely interesting but I’m more interested in the upcoming new Tesla phone.

Not a bad idea. Gets rid of annoying noise on trails near homes. I wonder, though, how the range is affected by tenperature.

Right, because gasoline is widely available in nature.

The gasoline snowmobile has a range of, what, 100 miles? And, if you loop back to your truck, you can fill up with the spare gas cans.

What's the range of these electric shavers? Can you change out the spent batteries back at the truck?

This is only to make battery-powered cars look sane by comparison.

I will point out that in Quebec, where these things are produced, hydro electric power is so plentiful, they sell excess power to Eversource here in New England.

The real issue is that the range of any battery powered machine is lowered as the temperature decreases.
A snow mobile is not operated in Florida or Texas.
They are operated in the northern part of the US and Canada.
What is the range when the temperature is 10 below zero or less?

EV threads on FR are great for lots one to self identify.

I mean, do people really think the batterie system used would not hold a charge in cold weather? And some think the current generation isn’t being taught anything in school…
