Plant Scientists Find Recipe for Anti-Cancer Compound in Herbs Like Thyme and Oregano

I guess since we’re coming to the end of another week, I SHOULD post my Gardening Resolutions for 2022, Huh? ;)
Diana’s Gardening Resolutions - 2022:
Make USE of all the small twigs and branches I have in my tree-filled yard. Get myself a small, electric shredder and grind them up. Use as mulch and/or add to the compost pile.
Find another stack of asphalt shingles and finish off laying them between the raised bed garden boxes. This has worked really well - just need to FINISH it, now! (Mom’s BRILLIANT idea, last year!)
Set up another compost bin. We have two, but more is always better, Right?
Plant a peach and a cherry tree to replace the two that died. (Need TWO for fruit!)
Plant more herbs and dry them for winter use. My favorite combo that I use ALL the time is from The Spice House; ‘Parisian Shallot Herb Blend.’ See what ‘parts’ of it I can grow at home so I don’t have to pay for the whole blend.
Plant MORE pole beans for jar after jar of Dilly Beans. Yeah, they’re a PITA to stuff, but man are they WORTH the effort!
MORE flowers in my garden this season. In fact, TWO beds will be nothing BUT cutting flowers this season. I always MEAN to do that, and I LOVE having fresh flowers in the house, but food production has been winning out. I need more ‘food for the soul!’
Since any future PUPPIES are going to be moved to the BACK deck, and I am getting a GATE for the front porch when the new railings arrive next spring, I want to make the front porch more garden-like with tubs of flowers and herbs and a nice place for us to sit and relax. Yes, we have a back deck, but we are both ‘Front Porch People’ and prefer to look out on the garden and the rolling hills and the livestock and the trees and sky and clouds.
And lastly; LESS Tomatoes. Diana? You don’t NEED 32 tomato plants and you just about KILLED yourself last year canning them all...and I gave a LOT away, too! So, knock it off! ;)

Happy Anniversary tomorrow! Have a wonderful celebration.
Why Sunflower Seeds May Be Hard To Get In 2022
When you need a healthy snack, you can’t go wrong with sunflower seeds. As For Care Education and Research reports, these seeds are a nutrient-packed superfood that contain a ton of healthy fats, fiber, vitamins, and minerals needed by the human body. And, with many focusing on New Year’s Resolutions very soon, this food will be one desired for its seeming health benefits. But, due to production issues, the snack might be that much harder to come by in 2022. According to Dakota Farmer, sunflowers have faced some serious road bumps over the past year. Due to droughts, farmers in Argentina and regions around the Black Sea have had issues producing enough sunflowers to keep up with consumer demand for the products they produce.
Global Trade also reports that demand for sunflower oil drastically increased over the course of 2021, driving up the price of sunflower plants across the world. The droughts that caused price fluctuations earlier in the year may have come to an end, but thanks to growing demand for sunflower products in more countries, getting your hands on the seeds might prove slightly tougher than normal in the coming year.
According to a press release provided by Allied Analytics, it’s said that a global trend toward healthy eating has pushed greater demand for sunflower oil. The increased want for the oil has also spurred a greater interest in the seeds, and the drive to plant more of the flowers has caused shortage concerns over availability. Additionally, growing global markets also helped spur an increased demand for snack foods derived from sunflower oil, further raising the stakes for this crop. Due to these combined factors, experts believe that market prices for sunflower seeds should see a significant increase in the near future.
You might imagine that only humans plan to snack on these seeds, but in actuality, they make excellent bird seed and animal feed thanks to their nutritional content. Countries across Europe and Asia have started planting more sunflowers as a result of the shifting market, so expect some big changes for this snack and some possible price fluctuations at the grocery store in 2022 — though hopefully it’ll level out at some point.

What a nice post!
Anyone have suggestions for Happy New Year Greetings that I could send (today or Jan 1) in an ecard to friends who are avid gardeners?
Sayings, quotes or links to quotes would really be appreciated.
Thanks! and Happy New Year to all FR gardeners :)
THESE are by FAR the most beautiful e-cards I have ever seen. Not sure what it costs to send one, but they’re pretty cool. You can look at them all for free before you decide!

Agreed!
They are absolutely wonderful.
Actually, I have had a subscription since 2019 and send them for all occasions...
However, I just haven’t found one that pertains to gardeners—eh maybe the lotus bloom one, but again, I came up with a wonderful saying last year, and would like to find another one.
I am looking for a saying to include in Lawson Card ;)
Got it.

Wow...You are simply amazing!
I did a search for New Year wishes gardener quotes, but I didn’t find these wonderful gems :)
Thank you soooo much!!!!!
Thank you. It’s been a really nice shirt sleeve weather day here in the middle of Misery.
Tomorrow... not looking so good, but we’ll make the best of what it brings.
Happy New Year!
Right back at ya!
Between the bad weather and covid exposures, my guest list for today has dwindled a bit, so I cut the roast down to 8lbs. It’s going into the Traeger real soon now.
I’ll toss the other half in the freezer to save for another day.
Yes, its pretty crappy weather out here! Cold and windy. Thankfully not too much snow! Thankfully I finished up everything yesterday when it was warm!
You know, when I look back through my family tree, until we got to America most of the marriages took place right around New Year. A good time for a new start!
I am sure that roast will hold in the freezer til May or June.
Happy Anniversary to you both!

Our sedentary lives really hit home for many people over the last year. Did you gain the COVID-19, or was it 20 pounds?...
...If you’re a gardener, you know gardening is exercise. Experts say the various activities and tasks of gardening ultimately use all of the major muscle groups. In addition, strenuous gardening activities such as raking, hoeing, and digging are both aerobic and muscle strengthening.
Need to pick something up? Do your squats. Carrying something? Do some curls. Reaching for something? Calf raises. Do your rows while weeding. You get the picture. You’re incorporating typical gym exercises while you garden. No machines needed.
