General Motors (GM) plans on going beyond manufacturing a fleet of electric cars, according to an announcement Wednesday regarding electrification component sets, which are capable of converting most old gasoline-powered automobiles into new-age electric vehicles (EV).

The technology will be used for EV conversion projects and GM expects to target a group of diverse commercial clients and enable them to meet their sustainability targets. Electrification components will open up new business avenues and the company estimates a market growth of $20 billion by 2030 with the increasing demand for zero-emissions technology.

Truth is, the reality of the bigger picture is so twisted and insane it is hard to believe. They don’t even allow human lives get in their way of power and profit. They have absolutely no integrity or human compassion.

So all these crazy conspiracy theories are just not crazy at all. Like they say, “follow the money”. And if there is a profit to be made the theory is true no matter how crazy it sounds. Because they will absolutely do anything it takes.

Been on top of this stuff since the Sierra Club started ushering in the “Environmentalism” from Berkeley years and years ago. It was actually predictable, the cause and effect has played out step by step just as predicted.

Why do people have a fetish for petrol as the only way to power cars?

My father died in March at 94. His grandfather came to this country in 1889, with his wife and her father and his family. Her father was born in Texas during the Republic of Texas. On his grave marker is a bronze disc saying Citizen of the Republic of Texas.

Yes, we love Texas and we are many.

Sam Houston: “Texas has yet to learn submission to any oppression, come from what source it may.”

Some things do not change.

Ditto the solar cells. Solar cells basically shifting Co2 emissions to China.
They use so much energy to make, that all solar companies in Europe went bankrupt. Most Us solar went to China too!

The mass gullibility and consideration that it is even possible or practical is pretty frighting. They are going to make sure we are ALL walking before this trending stupidity is done.

“Braking within that range is a net loss in energy, not a gain.”

I still don’t get it. If braking sends current back into the batteries, why is it a net loss of energy?

“as they would only go about 5 MPH uphills”

Why on earth were those buses bought in the first place? Sounds like a motor problem, not a battery problem.

Because most of the energy of the braking operation is used to slow the car down, which results in energy lost as heat.

“Because most of the energy of the braking operation is used to slow the car down, which results in energy lost as heat.”

I mean the type of braking where the motors are turned into generators which, while slowing the vehicle send power back into the batteries. I thought EVs had this ability. Maybe I’m wrong.

That is what I am talking about. When the electric brake is applied, and the momentum of the car is applied to the motor/generator, current flows through the circuit into the battery. Since the motor and battery windings do present an electrical resistance, the current in them makes heat. The magnetic field also induces electric currents in the stater and rotor plates of the motor/generator, creating more heat. Once the car slows down to a point where the mechanical brakes must be applied, no further battery charging can be performed. All of that heat is dissipated and lost.

Conversion of electrical energy to motion or back is in the range of 85 - 95% efficient, so some waste heat is always produced.

“current flows through the circuit into the battery.”

Isn’t that saying that some of the momentum energy charges the batteries?

Why, of course. But that is not 100% efficient. Energy is wasted through the heating of the electrical system and eventually the mechanical brakes. Bear in mind that there are also energy losses as the car is pushed through the air.

Perpetual motion doesn't happen in the real world. Energy conversion will never occur without waste. Anything that results in heat dissipation removes the energy from the system. It is no longer available for transfer back to the battery.

“Maybe this will help: Regenerative Braking”

Informative article. Sounds like the electrical method isn’t very efficient. I can see that, thinking that the motors acting as generators would have to produce a proper charging voltage which, given that they’ll be running at different RPMs, doesn’t sound like a good idea.

Anyway, I’ve learned something from our discussions.

It was a nice conversation, I enjoyed it. It looks like a 10% increase in overall range can achieved with regenerative breaking. That seems good.
