Is Anyone Else Spending Christmas Eve Alone?
From Skooz's Comfy Home | 12/24/2021 | Skooz

Merry Christmas! I hope everyone is having a good evening. This is, I think, the tenth edition of the annual thread dedicated to those among us who, for whatever reason, find ourselves solo on the night before Christmas.

Here in my cozy habitat, it's just me, my faithful hound and, a little later, Ralphie Parker and then George Bailey will make his yearly appearance.

The presents are wrapped and under the tree. After dinner, I'll imbibe a latte and then maybe a little vino.

Anyone else solo tonight?

Who are the presents wrapped for?

Daughters, mom, stepdad, nieces, nephews, sister, in-laws. I think that covers it. I’ll see them all tomorrow.

I had surgery on my parathyroid on Tuesday, spent a night extra in the hospital and have to stay at a local Holiday Inn for my upcoming appointment with the surgeon. After that I can go back home.

Lost a good friend last week. It’s just a sad Christmas.

I’ll make sure to make up for next year.

Wow. My other daughter just texted that my favorite movie “its a wonderful life is on”. I always wondered if I wasn’t born how would things be different. My oldest daughter is an RN. A good one. How many lives has she saved.
My son called tonight. He is a paramedic. On his way home he watched a motorcyclist wreck at close to 100+ miles. He did compressions until ambulance showed up. He said he watched him take his last breath. Last week he saved a boy who drowned. So I find solice in this. Thank you all. Merry Christmas. .

Oh, Nuc, I’m so very, very sorry. There is nothing so rotten as the world losing good people. So glad she had you.

Yep. Just had a nice bowlful of Tillamook French Vanilla ice cream.

Later, going to watch Hans Gruber fall to his death from the Nakatomi Tower (wouldn't be Christmas without it). Maybe watch "The Holiday" again, or "Christmas Vacation".

A nice glass of Chardonnay, my nightly prayers, then peaceful, blissful sleep.

And here I thought I was the only kid on the planet who did that!!!!!

Too funny!

Merry Christmas!

Just me and my 21 year old son.

We’re loving it.

Just had a mess of Chinese food.

Dog and cat also got some chicken on a stick, minus the stick.

Me too. I’m single, never married, no kids. My folks both died in 2020 and being Irish, none of my siblings/cousins are talking to anybody.

What I realized this year is that I LOVE Christmas. The lights the music, the decorations! And the snow. I realized that I am alone, but I the verbal abuse has stopped, it’s better to be alone, than not invited or shunned from Christmas dinners. I didn’t spend a ton of money on gifts that don’t even get a Thank you. This year I have all the good, without the abuse.
I like it. Advent was great. Merry Christmas

ADAM KINZINGER is spending Christmas alone.

He wants to know, “Who do you feel you’ve “lost” or become separated from due to the current political climate?”

Tell him how you feel...

Not exactly alone. My housemate -- I am primary caregiver to an 85-year-old widow whom I've known for 37 years -- and I will be spending tonight and tomorrow alone here at the retirement community in Monterey. We thought her daughter the pediatrician would invite us to her place tomorrow for dinner to see the grandchildren, but she and the grandkids went off to L.A. without telling her. We found out from the relative in L.A. what was going on. My housemate broke into tears at the utter lack of consideration from her daughter.

Tonight we'll watch "The Bishop's Wife" on TCM, which I've recorded.

Tomorrow we'll eat brunch at the dining hall. Later I'll crack open some champagne, bake some crusty French bread and open up some smoked salmon for a snack. We'll probably listen to my period instrument "Messiah" (Hogwood, 1982) and catch a WWII documentary on Netflix.

It could be worse.

Just my wife and I...we saw a camel (not native to East Tennessee) earlier, rescued an injured possum from the middle of the road, ‘Die Hard’ running on IMBD...all is well.
