a low-profile, solo conman scored one of the biggest thefts of the year Wednesday when he walked out of the Apple store with an estimated $70,000 in merchandise.
A source said the thief, posing as a FedEx driver, knocked on the store’s service door on Lower Michigan Avenue, and an employee gave him a cartload of outgoing packages. All totaled, about $70,000 worth of iPhones, MacBooks, iPads, and other products were taken, according to a report.

That, and a shooting at my wife's beloved Oakbrook Mall!!!
It’s reparations as some Woke Lefties will call it
Well got to admit, while it probably isn’t as much fun, It is a lot safer and effortless compared to storming the front store armed with hammers and crowbars... lol
Can’t/Won’t apple simply turn off access to the devices when they are turned on and registration is attempted?
Don’t work harder when you can work smarter... lol
Yes, they are now bricked paper weights.
Yes, all those devices will be instantly bricked or they will easily lead law enforcement to them. Not smart robbing an Apple Store
Going to the source document it is interesting to note the rogues gallery of photos with reported crimes. Someone here named it right: Chicongo.
They are good for repair parts such as screens.
True, or like someone here mentioned before, for sale to the ignorant who don’t know any better. No shortage of those I guess.
Is it really theft if an employee says, Here’s the packages, take them?
I imagine the thieves will sell them to the unsuspecting for cash.
Gee, I thought Frank Cullota was dead!
I believe the concept of “False Pretense” is in play here.
The driver presented himself as something he was not.
The ‘Criminal” isn’t smart enough to know that and no white person explained it to him....
How do we know the employee was not in on it?
Well got to admit, while it probably isn’t as much fun, It is a lot safer and effortless compared to storming the front store armed with hammers and crowbars... lol
__________
Dont forget a very large pick-axe.
Yep. :)
He must have been waited on by the employees at the genius bar.
Could would should, if the store manager is willing to dig into his Numbers app, cross-ref to the FedEx batch, and brick them on Christmas Eve.
Never happen.
What will happen instead, is that Apple will still profit from the distribution of this theft to Chiraq pawn shops, and those 'customers' will become Apple buyers of AppleMusic, AppleThi$, AppleThat.
In fact, if there were repairs in that FedEx batch going back to the client, Apple will blame them for not bricking their stolen iPad!
