The widow of a Colorado man who was killed in a fiery pileup crash caused by a truck driver has hit out at Kim Kardashian for demanding clemency for her husband's killer...
Kardashian, 41, who is training to become a lawyer in California and has been active in the criminal justice reform movement, this week took to social media to call for Rogel Aguilera-Mederos' mandatory minimum sentence of 110 years in prison to be reduced over the April 2019 crash in which his brakes failed and he plowed into stalled traffic, killing four people.
'I don't think that we want our local proceedings in any state taken over by who has the loudest mouth out there, because people don't know all the details, they are running on emotion,' said the mom-of-three widow, referring to Kardashian.
Kathleen, who delivered an emotional testimony during Aguilera-Mederos' trial, says she believes the driver deserves a sentence of 20 years in prison for committing a series of missteps that resulted in the deadly crash.
Aguilera-Mederos, 26, a Cuban immigrant, was transporting timber in the mountainous western state of Colorado in April 2019 when his brakes stopped working on a downhill stretch and he failed to use an emergency exit ramp.
Instead, the truck slammed into stalled traffic, causing a fiery 28-car pileup that killed four people and injured six others.
Aguilera-Mederos was found guilty by a jury on 27 counts including multiple vehicular homicides, and last week a judge handed down the 110-year sentence, which he said was the mandatory minimum under Colorado law, which requires a defendant to serve consecutive, rather than concurrent, sentences.

Well, what’s done is done. Up to the Governor to grant a pardon.
It sounds like the driver:
A. Failed to inspect his equipment (and refuse to operate it if defective)
B. Was incompetent to take a mountain downgrade without torching his brakes and creating a runaway truck situation, or (most likely)
C. Both of the above
Tractor-trailer airbrake systems don’t just fail. The driver screwed up. People are dead because of it. Nobody who knows how this stuff works wants to hear him complaining right now.
That’s probably the best thing to do for every one involved. Let him think about what he did in prison for the next 20-30 years. Jonathan Pollard eventually become free after all those years.
Since the unwanted immigrant only passed up 2 runaway truck ramps instead of 3 I think maybe 100 years would be appropriate 🤪
re: “Well, what’s done is done. Up to the Governor to grant a pardon.”
I’m actually much more appalled to find out how uninformed ppl are on this event; for instance, the so-called ‘brake fail’ was probably on account he didn’t downshift or use the Jake brake and literally ‘rode’ the regular brakes (burning them up in effect) all the way down the mountain - and PEOPLE are assuming his brakes were not maintained!!
To be clear, I have not reviewed all the known facts of this event.
“I don’t know why a log truck without brakes wouldn’t use” those emergency ramps.
For a truch travelling at 85 mph, I think turning up one of those ramps would be a death sentence.
I didn't care for Trump caving to her celebrity status to release Cyntoia Brown.
“Bit of a gruesome trophy I think. Prosecutors seem to be dumber these days and they certainly do not seem to match the Hollywood stereotype. Maybe they have always been dumb and we did not realize it?”
Dumb in terms of doing endzone victory dances? That’s been an issue since I was a baby JAG prosecutor in ‘86. To my shame, we kept score of convictions. Of course, I also celebrated as an Area Defense Counsel when we got four acquittals out of 16 courts martial in 10 days (a MUCH tougher row to hoe). All government prosecutors need to have on their desks, facing them, the following, which is in most every state and federal criminal procedure statute: “The duty of a prosecutor is not to convict, but to ensure justice is done.”

This man killed people. He drove beyond abilities. Truck drivers are trained to manage these situations. Truck driving is NOT a gas and brake situation.
Liken this to him picking up a machine gun he couldn’t control
For a murderer ?
Well HE chose to live
The guy was not qualified to be driving a big rig. The democrats are in the process of flooding the country with many more.
I do have to admit that in watching crime shows you will find where serial rapists and murders get much less time.
Air brakes failed did they? How exactly does that happen?
I think that low gears are required on descent. He never should have gotten over fifty miles an hour. It’s not like a lot of good options await you if you don’t take the ramp, anyway.
It was the drivers fault period. You come down a hill in the same gear you went up it. If you do that you don’t even have to hit the brakes, the engine will hold it back to a safe speed.
There are videos online. The ramps are effective and safe for both driver and truck.
I don’t know what kind of transmission the truck had, but if it was working, he should have been able to control his speed and hit the ramp. He must have been very poorly trained.
Yes most of them are filled with loose sand, truck sinks right into it.He was in a hurry and didn’t want to come down the hill using the proper gear.
“Since it was an accident”
It wasn’t. Go see the youtube video of this criminal miles before he crashed. He was screwing around, swerving into other lanes trying to ram people, speeding excessively down a mountain road, etc. He had miles, many miles and places to stop, so this was nothing but intentional.
The material is a non-compacting pea gravel or washed rock. The truck hits it and bogs down to a stop.
