CPS buying 100k laptops in anticipation of increased remote learning in January
Chicago Sun Times ^ | 22 Dec 2021 | Nader Issa

Officials said the move will give schools more access to devices and replace damaged laptops as a spike in cases — and a subsequent move to online classes for some classrooms — is anticipated in the new year.

Through this past July, CPS bought 100,110 laptops and tablets for a combined $31,846,853 to add to the district’s existing supply and help bridge that gap, according to district records.

... Lost or unreturned devices have also contributed to the need for more laptops, though officials didn’t say how many fell in that category.

Just dump money on it and the kid's education might improve?

“ Lost or unreturned devices have also contributed to the need for more laptops, though officials didn’t say how many fell in that category.”

Most likely nearly all of them.

—”Where are these laptops manufactured?”

A safe bet they are not assembled any near Chicago, Illinois.
Closer to the opposite side of the earth?

Chicagos antipode is near Australia...

By the time the Christmas break is over, we might be on our way down from the peak if we are seeing what is happening in South Africa applying to the States.

Let’s just give our kids devices to allow stealth access from global interests collecting every possible status, feeling, location, or interest for future plundering. /s

Remote learning… quarantines of healthy, asymptomatic students? This is the height of stupidity and IS COUNTERPRODUCTIVE!

Compare the end results to Chicago’s students with the end results to Florida’s students under Florida’s protocols. With a near certainty Florida’s students will score far better on achievement tests than Chicago’s students and Florida’s student population will be far closer to achieving herd immunity against COVID-19 illness.

For those who don’t remember, Florida’s schools are PREVENTED from involuntarily quarantining healthy students.

re: “Through this past July, CPS bought 100,110 laptops and tablets for a combined $31,846,853 to add to the district’s existing supply and help bridge that gap, “

Gee, once upon a time (maybe not so early on either) it was thought TeeVee could deliver educational content to the home ...

Whatever happened to that idea, concept?
.
.
PS. How many spare digital TV subchannels could 31 million dollars ‘rent’ in between infomercials for steak knives and exercise equipment?

Great idea! Buy Surface Pro or iPads for 250,000 kids! Apple and Microsoft will love you! 1100 or 1200 a pop.

Where are these laptops manufactured?

Somewhere in Asia is the most likely answer.
