The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission and Backcountry Hunters & Anglers will offer a free online squirrel hunting webinar on Jan. 6 from 7-8 p.m. Topics will include species habits, habitats, scouting, essential equipment, effective shot placement, hunting strategies, cleaning, cooking techniques and dish ideas. The class will conclude with an interactive question and answer session.
“The webinar is open to all skill levels,” said R3 Hunting Specialist Walter “Deet” James. “However, it’s especially intended for people who have never hunted and lack access to a hunting mentor.”
Space is limited and pre-registration online is required. Participants will receive a Zoom link in a confirmation email after registering. The class will be recorded and available to registered participants at a later date.
Gray, Red and Fox Squirrel can be hunted statewide. Harvest seasons, as well as bag, possession and season limits are available online and in the 2021-2022 North Carolina Inland Fishing, Hunting & Trapping Regulations Digest. For more info about skills based hunting-related opportunities, visit ncwildlife.org/sbs or contact James at walter.james@ncwildife.org or 984-202-1387.
I’ve eaten many a squirrel, I’ve used a pellet rifle, 22 rifle and 410 gauge shotgun as weapons, my mother would fry them up make some gravy and serve with mashed potatoes and a vegetable
Where I live it’s bunnies (no trees),
but texture, taste, cooking method
pretty much the same. No license
required.
Come get all the ones at my birdfeeders! I would pay a bounty per tail!

My granddad had a pecan orchard by the Flint River in Georgia. He let people hunt all the squirrels they wanted for 25 cents per squirrel.
Were they paying him or he was paying them?
They paid him. Sorry, wasn´t very clear.
I could see it working either way, was curious.
On the general subject of useful things to do with pecans, Buc-ee’s has great white chocolate coated pecans. Recommended!
Squirrels... I have more than a few. The one I have my eye on, I call Brunswick.
The neighbor behind me killed one of my windows shooting at a squirrel with a pellet gun (for which he hugely apologized and paid for a new window).
I’m watching 2-3 squirrels scamper around the backyard right this minute...danged pests. If love to open up on them with my semi-auto 12 gauge.
Squirels are rats with good PR people.
Hack into the training View Graph presentation.
Substitute pictures of Dems. for squirrels.
Maybe suggest buckshot instead of #6.
What’s with the line of cars heading to Washington D.C. for?.
Pops always said you need two people to squirrel hunt. Because as soon as the squirrel sees you, he’s going to run around to the other side of the tree. Which is where the second person comes in. On the other side of the tree.
