Funny how Game of Thrones is credited for paving the way, yet no mention of Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies, nor the first three Narnia films.
Fantasy aside, I wish some streaming services would follow this pattern and work out a deal for the various Clive Cussler novel series.
Don't screw Foundation up.
I think we’re near the point where having human actors or even human voice work is a mere option, but no longer a pure necessity. Computers could provide representation of whatever you need represented. That would open the door to a lot of work.
I’m excited and nervous at the same time about this.
I have a free trial for Apple TV+ and may check out Foundation. I read the original trilogy about 5 years ago, and it did indeed seem unfilmable to me. I thought the books contained clever ideas and concepts, but they leap through time there is little chance to make a movie out of them.
I would regard what I’ve seen with WOT and Dune to be a bit separate. While WOT has its first debut in film, Dune has had the benefit of one movie and two miniseries to rely on for production.
Dune clearly looks and feels like there has been some direction from its passed films.
WOT is more to me an adaptation like the David Lynch film was for Dune, an entertaining attempt but not exactly what I would regard as Peter Jackson LoTR level which should be a gold standard in Hollywood if such a concept is possible.
With the Foundation, it seems a lot simpler as it is rather straightforward stuff. Star Trek with a longer history. By the time I read it all the 3rd time, it had expanded to several books, and Asimov had incorporated his I Robot series into his future history.
I cannot see why Foundation is ‘unfilmable.’ All they would need to do is stick to the story and bring out the special effects. That would work. I would really like to see the dramatization of that business with ‘The Mule’ and the threat he posed to the master plan which was anticipated by Hari Seldon.’
In any case, I will never be adding new streaming services. It is absurd that people would be expected to have Netflix, Prime, Apple, Disney, HBO Plus, Paramount, and whatever else comes along. I pay $5 for OAN because it is the only genuine News service out there right now that I know of, though they have a long way to go.
I will unlikely ever see these new productions despite my so much having enjoyed the books a long time ago.
I for one look forward to a fidelity cinematic production of “Porky’s II - the Novelization of the Movie”
Generally speaking, if the critics like it, I won’t. It usually means it’s woke.
Rendezvous With Rama? YAY! One of my favorites over the years!
I know The Sci-Fi Channel did Riverworld, and it didn’t go over too well. That was a favorite as well.
But my all-time favorite I would love to see is Ringworld. The Ringworld Universe fascinates me, and the visuals, if done right, would be incredible.
When Star Wars first came out, Chewbacca reminded me of Speaker-To-Animals.
I didn’t think the first Dune was so bad, especially considering the special effects they had to come up with so many years ago.
Jesus, I grew up on TV series like Tom Corbett Space Cadet which looked like the sets had been made by some spaced cadets out in their backyard.
Give em a break.
I have read and re-read most of the Foundation related books and stories. Loved them for the most part. Same with Wheel of Time. As for Dune, loved the original but lost interest after that.
And yet I have no desire to see these works of imagination set into some hollyweirdo’s video vision of them. I prefer my own vision.
