It is hard to write an obit for a good friend of many years. Burt Prelutsky, a conservative columnist nested in the Hollywood area, first caught my eye by reading his materials in the old Federalist Digest. He combined intelligence, wit, conservatism and scalding characterizations of our republic's enemies in his columns.
A lot of people in the Arts business didn't like him, but Burt knew who the real conservatives were.
Sadly, on the 17th of this month, I received a text from a relative that Burt had died that morning. He had a sudden drop in blood pressure, so was taken to the hospital, where things went from bad to worse. I'll spare you the details.
Yesterday I drove to his home in California and talked with his nephew about Burt's legacy. He wrote for M*A*S*H, Mary Tyler Moore, Diagnosis Murder, Dragnet and many other shows and movies. One M*A*S*H episode I remember well was "Quo Vadis, Captain Chandler. I saw it before I met Burt. It is a tremendous plot.
I hit the wrong button and posted this before I was finished.

Enjoyed reading his stuff and his occasional radio appearances, RIP.
RIP to a man who kept us laughing thru our tears.
Burt Prelutsky, a very nice person once you get to know him, was born in Chicago, in 1940, and raised in Los Angeles.
He has been a humor columnist for the L.A. Times and a movie critic for Los Angeles magazine. As a freelancer, he has written for the New York Times, TV Guide, Modern Maturity, Emmy, Holiday, American Film, and Sports Illustrated.
For television, he has written for Dragnet, McMillan & Wife, MASH, Mary Tyler Moore, Rhoda, Bob Newhart, Family Ties, Dr. Quinn and Diagnosis Murder. In addition, he has written a batch of terrific TV movies that starred the likes of Jean Stapleton, Ed Asner, Keith Carradine, Mare Winningham, Jean Simmons, Jack Warden, Barnard Hughes, Richard Thomas, Sharon Gless, Sylvia Sidney, Harold Gould and Lillian Gish. He has been nominated for three WGA awards (winning one), won three Christophers, been nominated for a Humanitas and won an Edgar.
Talk about being well-rounded, he plays tennis and poker ... and rarely cheats at either.
He is the best-selling author of "Conservatives Are From Mars, Liberals Are From San Francisco," as well as "Portraits of Success: Candid Conversations with 60 Over-Achievers," a collection of interviews with subjects such as Newt Gingrich, Carl Reiner, Gary Sinise, Michele Bachmann, Charles Krauthammer, Andrew Breitbart, Paul Ryan, Rick Perry, Pat Boone, John Stossel, Ralph Peters and the late Karl Malden. His book "Liberals: America's Termites or It's a Shame That Liberals, Unlike Hamsters, Never Eat Their Young" is available at The Patriot Shop.
He lives in the San Fernando Valley, where he takes his marching orders from a wife named Yvonne and a dog named Duke.
Just a wonderful guy. Terrific writer. Always enjoyed him.
Didn’t he write a couple of episodes of Dragnet for Jack Webb
“Just the facts, ma’am”.
Good info, and if memory serves Burt used to occasionally sub on the Michael Savage radio show.
RIP.
Home work. Oh home work. I hate you you stink
That’s a darn good essay from 12/18.
Ping
Burt wrote several episodes of DRAGNET. His stories about working with Jack Webb were very funny.
