Ad of the Day: Chevrolet’s heartfelt holiday film tells tale of love and restoration

Iconic American car manufacture Chevrolet has premiered a heartfelt holiday spot centered around love, redemption and restoration.

Based on true events, ‘Holiday Ride’ opens with some downbeat guitar chords as we see an older man try to get into the Christmas spirit by hanging up a wreath on the door of his garage. Inside rests a 1966 Chevy Impala, and as the main character sits in the front seat he is flooded with memories of his late wife.

Noticing that her dad is feeling reflective, his daughter speaks to local mechanics to see if they are able to restore the classic car. They secretly get to work on the project, and when the father is presented with the gleaming restored car he notes that it is the “best Christmas gift I could ever have.”

The four-minute-long film was devised by creative agency Commonwealth//McCann and worked on by three Academy Award winners: Tom Hooper, a famed director whose work includes The King’s Speech and The Danish Girl; composer Rachel Portman OBE; and cinematographer Claudio Miranda.

The campaign will be supported by social media activations and will be broadcast nationally from this week.

Video at link. Beautiful 1966 Chevy Impala SS 396, with a cool storyline. My dad bought a 1979 Pontiac leMans wagon from a dealer in Paramus, NJ. They had on display a Bandit edition TransAm and a fully loaded 1965 Pontiac Grand Prix that looked like it never left the showroom floor. More attention was drawn to the Grand Prix than the TransAm. Interesting how the "big three" need to draw on the nostalgia angle to get people interested in the new stuff

I was just shocked that GM would actually run a commercial where one of its actors utters “Merry Christmas, Dad”. That should get a nice rise out of the wokesters.

Much better than the commercial of two old hippies seeing and buying a old VW Camper Bus.

I DID see this already, I just don’t remember what channel, but it must’ve been over the weekend, I think.
Beautiful commercial, it got me teary for my Dad, but it was a commercial, nonetheless.

Best of the year award ( by me, old film student). Cried like the baby I still am. We had that car in so cal. Dad ( still alive 101!) would decorate it with Pom poms and crepe paper for the annual rite of spring little league parade. My team was dodgers, so blue crepe. The town by the sea would briefly shutdown to our cherished children. That was a wonderful time.

I like this year's stupid GMC pretentious commercial that is as dumb as last year's.

In this one, a young couple is out in nowhere, and he whistles for a new dog for his loving wife (how did the dog get out there in nowhere-ville).

Then she tops that gift by showing him a horribly expensive GMC brand new truck, probably over $50,000 that she bought without telling him, that suddenly bursts over the horizon, which is driven by somebody, but we don't know who (probably her boyfriend that he doesn't know about).

When that 1966 Chevy rolled off the assembly line, Brandon was plagerizing his way through college.

Nice ad, but _______________ opposed to car dealerships and I have several valid reasons. Anyone who walks into one gets what he/she deserves.

I had a hardtop 1965 SS 396/350HP with Saginaw 4 speed from 1970 to 1974. White with a black leatherette interior. The wife drove it and I drove my 1969 SS 396/375HP Camaro. Gas was cheaper then! The ‘65 and ‘66 were very similar with 3 taillights per side on ‘65 and a solid lens on ‘66. Heavy car but had a great ride. I would welcome a return of either of them for Christmas!

The problem is that I cannot buy the ‘66 Impala (4 door hardtop with front bench, please).

The last thing they called an Impala was kinda sad.

It’s a tremendous ad. A tribute to the kind of things real Americans do every day, at least in our small towns where people still look after each other.

Uhm... This has got to be a commercial from the 80’s or before, right?

It was “mom” and “dad”, with a daughter, and a dog.

The local car buffs were of different ethnicities, but no obvious homosexual anything — actually refreshing in there was NOTHING sexual about it.

I can’t believe ol’ Government Motors actually made that commercial.

Kudos to them - they know “go woke, go broke”.

Interesting commercial.
Makes me curious though; if he loved that car so much, why did he park it for the rats and mice instead of simply taking care of it?
I don't understand "car love". But then, I have only loved living things, not inanimate objects

Lovely.

You are so fortunate to have your father still.

God bless both of you.
