Progressives in Congress are lining up behind a bill that would shrink a regular week of work from 40 hours to 32 - bringing the four-day work week to America.
The Congressional Progressive Caucus just endorsed the aptly named "32-Hour Workweek Act," according to a statement from Rep. Mark Takano, the Democrat representing California's 41st district. The caucus, comprised of nearly 100 legislators, is a key progressive voice and has made its power known during recent infrastructure negotiations.
"For far too long, workers across this country have been forced to put in longer hours as their wages barely budge," chair of the caucus and Washington state Democrat Rep. Pramila Jayapal, said in a statement.
In the US, wages have been declining for five decades, with economic growth increasingly benefiting workers less. As workers demand more from work, and refuse to work in positions that don't suit their needs, a four-day workweek has caught traction. The shorter week has been shown in other countries to keep business booming and workers happier. Its implementation into law - or at least the mainstream - could mark a pivotal moment in America's rethink of work.
"It is past time that we put people and communities over corporations and their profits - finally prioritizing the health, wellbeing, and basic human dignity of the working class rather than their employers' bottom line," Jayapal said. "The 32-hour work week would go a long way toward finally righting that balance."

Yes, half the people work Monday through Thursday and half work Tuesday through Friday, all from 7 AM to 6 PM with an hour off for lunch, staggered as well. Increased service and coverage at no additional cost, and everybody gets a three day weekend!
Most of the time I work 10+ a day anyway. Just allow me to flex and call it even.
Typical govt worker mentality.
My ex worked for the state of NJ. Her week was M-F, 9-430. This included a 1 HR paid lunch. Her unit consisted of 6 counselors, 2 supervisors, and a secretary.
You think they will cut their pay? This would put a cut of 20% of the money they fill their pockets with. Buried deep in it would also be a minimum wage hike.
But look at it this way if they do cut the pay. Most Americans live pay check to pay check. When these people wake up after celebrating the 4 day work week, they will definitely rely on the government for more hand outs.
Having worked in the Federal government for 28+ years the majority of them could probably drop back to a 16hr work week with no noticeable difference.
Boxer did all the work. He was a horse.

Boxer is exhausted at the end, not dead. So the pigs sell him to the glue factory.
The pigs were happy to lose Boxer. He was the only one who could oppose them (he nearly killed a dog).
To Orwell, Boxer represent the Working Class. Honest, industrious, wanting decent pay and working conditions, not Stalinism.
Benjamin represents the cynic, who never really expected things to change. Who could tell from the start that the pigs were lying.
I think they know that would happen out in private industry. They’re gonna get their tax bite, regardless.
I believe what they want is for all government-controlled entities to go to it and KEEP the same pay. It’s a reward to the deep state bureaucrats for successfully defaming a sitting US President and stealing an election.
Businesses are free to initiate a 4 day work week if they choose now. Don’t need no government to say so.
4x 10 hour/day work week - I’d be fine with that. 4x 8 hour/day work week, I really don’t want to lower my income by 20%. Hard pass.

Unfortunately, they have.
They want 40 hours of pay and benefits for 32 hours of work.
It is a slightly camouflaged version of higher corporate and business taxes.
But then the next day the same representatives will demand open borders which drives down wages on the low end.

A kakistocracy is a government run by the worst, least qualified, or most unscrupulous citizens.

Hell yeah, 4 10 hour days and make up the shortages on friday. No more weekend work.
Of course I’m already at 60 to 65 hours a week now, and I am a salaried employee, Soooooo, it probably wouldn’t do much for me.
That right there demonstrates one of the major flaws with the prog.
They believe that they "allow" things to happen or not happen.
They have no sense of freedom for everyone, they believe they "rule" over the masses.
Eventually the masses put them down.

32 hours. More time to spend money. Might be good for the economy. Need more workers. Guess where they’ll come from?

I work 40 hour work weeks...never.
But I have worked 4 day work weeks but they were 10 hour days.
They can also run shifts, swing shifts, with 72 hours between cycles.
Maybe what we need is to develop a work ethic around a core 24 hour cycle chunking up the work day.
But in many cases it turns out that people will actually work harder trying to find ways to get out of working at all, than if they would have just knocked out the assigned work.
Laziness, and shirking is a pox upon all productivity.
