As many students of color struggle with the subject, schools are altering instruction - sometimes amid intense debate.
Students practice equations through singing, dancing and drawing. Activities are sculpted around their hobbies and interests: anime, gaming, Minecraft. Problem-solving is a team sport, rather than an individual sprint to the right answer.
Ebri, a math teacher and tech specialist for Duval County Schools in Florida, is using new techniques designed to promote equity. If kids of color, girls and low-income students engage, they'll be more likely to pursue high-level math classes, the argument goes. That can open doors to competitive colleges and lucrative careers.
After Ebri switched to emphasizing real-world problems and collaboration, her students, most of whom are Black, improved their scores on Florida's math exam in 2020-21 – even with 1 in 3 learning from home.

Math is important to know else you might get ripoed off on your next crack buy.
Why don’t they stop teaching math? It’s racist to teach any subject except CRT.
It does make sense, with some of my math classes I brought in extra topics to make it interesting to those students who were interested but, it is not true that singing and team problem solving are always going to inspire students who don’t “get it”.
The most important function of a teacher is to discover why a student does not understand a subject, and find a way to make that student make sense of the issue to their own understanding.
I am talking about kids in high school who are struggling with some very basic math concepts, they would not respond well to my introducing a lesson with a song. Would they?
Recall the teacher who suggested a trig pnumonic which sounded like an Indian chant and was repremanded for appropriation of another’s culture (SOHCAHTOA; Sine Opposite over Hypotenuse, Cosine Adjacent over Hypotenuse, Tangent Opposite over adjacent)
Huh?!
Regards,
If you want a not so radical solution here is one that works. It certainly not radical compared to all the bull crap that they try now and waste taxpayer dollars on. The solution is to forbid them educations. Take it all away and stop wasting money.
If you look at some of the most educationally motivated cultures in the world, they have once been denied the right to be educated. There was a time in our nation when freed men did everything in their power to get educated. They started their own school and colleges, just because they were once denied as slaves to learn. They lost that somehow as families were no longer important.
Deny them educations and they will eventually find a way to teach themselves. Defund government schools. It will create a Renaissance in education. It would be a blessing to whites as well.
Life applications in learning math will be more useful to the majority of students who will never, ever have to figure out how fast a bathtub with a hole will fill up or when two trains will pass the same point from different distances and at different rates of speed.
Ultimately, there can be only one … correct answer.
Go for it. Intelligent parents will teach
their children. When a job comes up that
requires math skills...guess who gets hired?
This is all utter bullshit, but this charlatan will milk a career from it. America's bloated leftist bureaucracies create their own religious dogma (in other words, LIES) which they believe, and they expect you to believe.
The world is laughing at us.
Math is best taught while the teacher and students are all TWIRKING! The results are……. “equitable”.
And when a job comes up that requires CRT skills and a degree in Grievance Studies, and when the hiring company needs to fulfill some of its racial/gender quotas...
Regards,
Mnemonic?
> Huh?!
Just when I thought I'd seen every goofy voice-to-text mistake:
mnemonic -> pnumonictakes the cake.
not new trans math!!
I don’t mind different methods to get students engaged with doing mathematics provided they are taught that there is indeed a right answer and getting to that is important.
:)
Math takes a discipline to follow the rules. Those without discipline will fail to use math as the great tool it is meant to be.
Perhaps some people just don't have the intelligence to abstract. Others are not taught how to recognize the abstraction. Most will never use the math in real life. Perhaps they shouldn't be taught math at that level at all. Colleges are filled with people who absolutely have no business being there based on their lack of ability and intelligence. There are other worthy pursuits that do not require math beyond basic arithmetic and algebra.
