People used to drink hot Dr. Pepper during the holidays Hot Dr. Pepper hasn't been popular outside of Texas since the 1970s. Should we bring it back?
the take out ^

I was an ’80s baby, so this was well before my time. But apparently in the wacky culinary headspace of the 1960s, people used to drink one very particular soda, warmed but not boiled, for good cheer and good tidings. That soda was Dr. Pepper.

To be honest, out of all the sodas I could see being warmed up, it’d certainly be The Good Doctor. There’s the cherry and prune overtones, a little caffeine, syrupy sweetness—what’s not to like? Matador Network has the story of the sweet hot times, from way back when. I was made aware of it by someone I follow on Twitter, who posted a link to the article with the commentary, “Let’s bring it back. Hot Dr. Pepper.”

Reminds me of the movie Blast From the Past.

ha-ha. I was thinking of the same scene where the dad is heating up some Dr. Pepper on the stovetop.

I remember hot Dr Pepper (with a twist of lemon) back in 1975. Good on a cold day!

We used to get Dr Pepper at a store counter. It tasted just like prune juice.
Coca Cola is cola
Dr Pepper is prune juice
Mountain Dew is orange juice.

That drink is big at the NFL. All the idiots at work love it and watch football.

This country is screwed.

Yep. For winter I might as well drink that German gluwein (horrible drink except warm when it is freezing outside)

Born in 1950, North Central Louisiana, so I’m as Redneck as it gets. I don’t ever recall that commercial, nor do I ever recall that drink being a “thing” here in the south central US. Maybe just in the big cities?

Have lived in the south all my life as well (6 years your junior). I don't remember commercials for hot Dr Pepper, but I do remember seeing print ads for it. I tried it once and hated it. Heating the drink removed the fizz.

Atkinson: Neighbors over there said the guy spent night and day out here. She’d bring him sandwiches and hot Dr. Pepper.

Levy: He drank it hot?

Atkinson: Yeah.

Levy: Good God.

I’m not confused, and you shouldn’t be sorry.
I liked Cream Soda and Root Beer for a short while, but I found that I couldn’t drink any carbonated drinks. I don’t can’t drink carbonated stuff. Except for Tanqueray & Tonic, w/ Lime.

DP tastes awful, like axel grease on-the-rocks. What I don’t drink, is more for you. Think of it that way...

I drank Cream Soda and Root Beer — loved them both — but found that I couldn’t tolerate the carbonation, in anything. Except for Tanqueray & Tonic w/ Lime, for the past 20yrs.

Yes, drank hot Dr Pepper.

Very little now since "Green" Dr Pepper is difficult to find.
